Sorry if this has been posted. When you trade in your Premium Xbox you can get the Elite for 199 in Gamestop and 100 Euro worth of vouchers. A good deal seems as the 120GB Hard Drive is about 180 Euro.

What if you have a hard drive full of save games and dlc though? at least if you buy the HD seperately you'll be able to transfer stuff across.

You pay the full price, then transfer over your data and then bring the Premium into the shop where they refund you the money.

would they accept or even check if an xbox had 3red light thing?

In limerick they check the consoles anyway (traded in a ps2 a few weeks ago)

Once you've paid for the downloadable content it can be downloaded again for free.

Guy in my local gamestop said that you need to bring in everything that came with your premium (headset, controller, Component Cable, Network Cable and even the Scart converter).

Also said that they would be getting in the cable which allows you to xfer your data between hard drives, but it would be a few weeks before they were in stock. Said to expect it to take an hour or so to xfer a full disk.

The cable comes with the Elite. So there should be no issues with doing it now.

Do you have to give the wireless controller and the box to get it?

Dont think u'd need the box as i've seen people buy used ones n they just come in a brown box...

I don't think so, I was chatting to a guy in gamestop who'd bought one, he said it was very noisy indeed!

Decent review of it there... answers all the basic questions.

forgive me for sounding like a complete noob but by "premium" do they mean one of the earlier 360's that have been released before this new one or the original xbox?

The Premium Xbox 360 is the 360 with the 20GB Hard Drive and Headset.

Damn my brother bought mine in hong kong and they gave us a core one when we wanted a premium and just added a 20gb harddrive but charged us for the premium. So they also had to buy the wireless controller and we didnt get the headset either.

It's not so much a bargain considering you've already spent the best part of €400 for the premium and then to add another €200 after you traded it in.

i'd disagree, when you consider that the 120gb hdd alone costs 170. 199 gives you a better built machine with hdmi, 120gb hdd, hdmi cable and a nice new colourscheme :).

Still don't think it's a good deal or anywhere near it. Although I do have enough 360's and hdds.

Well, IMHO, the stand alone 120GB HDD is a rip-off anyway - even when you take into consideration that it's a 2.5" drive. So, yes, if you compare the cost of the upgrade to the cost of a ridiculously expensive HDD, then it does seem like a bargain. :D

If you're looking to upgrade to a better built machine perhaps you should wait until the 65nm Falcon chip replaces the old 90nm ones. You're 360 will then run cooler and more quietly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭savemejebus

no disputing that the 120gb hdd price is a rip off. I just meant, in relation to the rip off price, the trade in, upgrade option isn't that bad.

Am gonna hold off and get a 65nm arcade with hdmi myself and throw in my old hdd.

When will thisbe available? I'm looking to upgrade my Premium for a quieter 360 that also has HDMI.Not worried about HDD capacity - do we know the name and availability of the version that will do this?

It will be on all of them once the Falcon chipset starts shipping, supposedly some time in Autumn in the states.

Even when it is being sold Europe you would want to look for some sign on the packaging to make sure you weren't buying old stock. Especially when it is first released.

Hope it didn't come across as if I was suggesting you were misleading people. :o

I was just re-iterating that what you are saying - that this upgrade bargain is relative to the cost of Microsoft's stand alone HDD. I wanted to hammer home the fact that the HDD is over-priced to begin with.
