I want to go to japan and south america with a possibility of going to australia if i have the funding, its a bit of a criss cross journey i know and will probably end up costing me a fortune... but i really want to do it, i figure i can do the whole lot for around 2 grand excluding spending money of course

I'm thinking the most direct route is Dublin -> Japan -> Australia - stop there for a while, then go to South America (i'm thinking Chile/Peru) and back to Ireland.

If its going to cost too much, i might just cut Oz altogether go directly from Japan to South America.

So, i have figured out that its easy enough to get to Beijing for around 600 squid by going through Frankfurt. i need to get to Tokyo from there and I was wondering how i would go about doing that? anyone every been from china to japan?

Alternately if anyone has been this route before would they have a better idea for a route to take?

Any help really appreciated, it's looking to be a daunting task already :(

RTW ticket should get you where you want go, when it includes South America and Im fairly sure it includes Japan. They usually cost about €2000-€2200 when it includes S. America due to higher taxes there- but I imagine thats still cheaper than booking each flight separately. You're limited to stopping in Santiago or Rio but everything else can be done overland in South America. Give trailfinders or usit a shout, they'll sort out the itinery for you

Ha! We've just booked that exact ticket last month! We're leaving in November, and are flying Dublin-(Heathrow)->Tokyo->Sydney->Melbourne->Santiago (via Sydney)->Then travelling over land to Buenos Aires and leaving from there to go home.

We booked a RTW ticket with Trailfinders and it cost 1600 plus about 400ish in taxes. So you should budget for 2000. Be advised that Santiago is the only city in SA you can fly into from Sydney when you're booking with BA/Quantas.

When are you planning to go? Be aware that during Carnaval, internal and international flights are all chockablock. We were having difficulty getting the dates we wanted and that was last month ... book soon if you're travelling around Dec/Jan/Feb.

I just found out that RTW tickets are only valid for 12 months?!?! This is correct isn't it? I wanna work in Oz for a year and do 2/3 months traveling each side of that, so that'd be 18 months. Not really sure what my options are now...

well what you could do is just book another ticket from your final destination to home, there really isn't much of a choice
