I have to to the conclusion that I will need to either quit drinking completely or cut down on it dramatically, I dont think im an alcoholic as it hasnt caused meo to miss work or my personality hasnt changed and I dont drink spirts but for the past 10 years since I started college I more or less have been binge drinking beer every weekend, maybe 2 nights a week friday and saturday night.i am now 29 so do you think I have a good chance of not having caused myself permanent damage if I kick it in the butt now

I don't think you'll get medical advice to answer your question here, only a doctor can check if you've done serious damage.

Ask your GP to send you for a simple liver function test /blood test if you are worried but i think you have little to worry about , nearly everyone in Ireland does what you have done. You are getting more mature so maybe time to cut back and drink less alcohol, drink lower alcohol content drinks like shandies etc or alternate a pint of soft drinks/water with every pint of beer. I highly doubt you have done your liver any permanent damage and remember the liver can repair itself anyway. People have 70% of their livers removed and it grows back to a normal size.

falling off the diet wagon once wont mess you up at all. just get back on asap. cut down on the drinking though. i doubt you've damaged your liver badly, many people drink maybe 3 or 4 times a week but neither is advisable. i tend to just drink on special occassions or once a month (whichever comes first). im starting to get less of a buzz from it as i get older (im 25). i much prefer the buzz of kicking the sh1t out of my biceps. you'll be grand.

Actually it's not just your liver you need to worry about. There is a direct link between binge drinking and Cancer, and a recent study suggests as little as 2 units a day can increase your chances of getting bowel cancer by 10% - this, I can tell you, is not a disease you want to get.

Your liver is the one of the only organs in your body that has the ability to repair/regenerate itself. However this cannot happen if you don't give it a chance to recover, you would probably have to give up drink for a few months to do this.

what do you mean by binge-drinking OP? As in mour than five drinks binge drinking or a total all-dayer wipeout altogether?

I drink once a week, about five or six pints and off home and that does me fine, occasionally two nights in a row if it's a BH weekend and I don't worry about my liver tbh as I'm very well behaved otherwise in terms of diet and exercise.
