    Hi,

It's been a really long time since I took up my camera in anger, really feeling a lack of mojo at the moment. I took these at different times over the last few weeks, would appreciate any comments or advice on how to improve. There are a few more on my Flickr
Also, any ideas on how to regain one's love for photography?

Love the second one but theres something about the position of the head in the first that doesnt sit with me, maybe it needs more above and to the right?

I like both, especially the second. There is something about a melancholy look from a child. I think it makes them look older than their years,it can look vacant.

thanks for the comments. As mentioned in a couple fo threads recently, photographing kids is next to impossible, so for every one or two that I get to keep or like, I delete about 100 for being out of focus, too late, missed expressions etc.
I think these two capture the characters of the girls perfectly, one is a happy smiley girl and the other is a bit melancholy some of the time.

    thanks aagain

Thats kids, most of the time just rattle off shots and then when the get a bit pooped take your time to pick off individual shots. I know some photogs who use 1d mk2n's to take kids shots, 8.5fps and quick af helps a lot to get that look.

2nd one is great. i love the lighting and shadow. creates great interest and the whisp if light coloured hair over the eye, magic.

i like the top one Paul , the angle gives it character as well -- i think photographing kids depends on the individual , my son is real easy to photograph , and my daughter is next to impossible to capture , i guess thats the challenge

2 great shots - 1st one to my eye is the better but that may be the happy rather than serious pose that is appealing to me. I agree with "6th" above in so far as there is something a little, eh 'unusual' in the position/proportion of the head to image size maybe in the 1st. Not quite sure what i'm trying to explain here. The black background is very powerful (as generally it can be powerful) - was this actually a background or flash technique? Only other thing maybe a tad lighter on the face - not much though. Nice job.

yeah maybe the crop is a bit strange and doesn't do it any favours. I'll mess around with it and see if I can get anything more harmonious. thanks again

Second one is excellent, the expression is really great. I like the first one too but a different crop might improve it, if thats possible.
