    Saw a Ducati 1098 abroad last week and was just wondering what the specs for the bike are and how much it would cost over here? Any ideas?

    crazy money for a bike which imo is pretty ugly, though 'intersting' to look at.

    1098 €18,500

    1098 S €22,750

    The bike is too small! Anyone over 5'6" is not going to be able to sit on one.

    I know a few lads from the Irish Ducati owners club with them. They aren't as small as they look ;)

    Nice bike, but I think the 998 looks much better.

    I've sat on one. They're pretty small, certainly no feeling of 'bulk' beneath you. I admit I didn't get to ride it and I am sure it handles well and all that but I think it's very ugly, especially given Ducati have made some lovely bikes down the years.

    It's nicer than the last 999! Thought the hypermoto was very small, but it's crazy money, i'd only get one if i was a lotto winner

    The mirrors on that thing would drive me nuts.

    they fold in for track and traffic ;)

    As for its size, the hyper is one of the higher seat hight Ducati's out there. Except for the Multi
    Seat Hights
    Multi = 33.5inch
    Hyper = 33.27inch
    1098 = 32.2inch
    S4rs = 31.5inch
    (07-08) specs
    All pretty average hight's from my knowledge :)

    I know, thats what would annoy me. Folding them in and out all the time sounds like a pain in the ass.:D

    I think they are lovely bikes. Not as powerful or a tech laden as an r1 or gsxr... but lovely character all the same and beautiful v-twin sound.
    Price wise... when you look at what comes as standard with a ducati (marchesini's , braided lines etc... they are not much more expensive than a good jap bike ... especially if you were to add these parts to the jap bike).
    I was talking to a guy from England about a week ago with a stunning fireblade... nicest I had ever seen... He had hel braided lines, brembo brakes and lots of carbon fiber all over it. Said all told it cost him about 23k !
    Ive had a go of an r6 and I'm 6'2 and a bit. The r6 was rediculously small.. for me a liter is much better size wise.
    I sat on a 1098 in ducati dublin... they are much bigger than a 600 class bike wihtout doubt. But then again none of these superbikes were designed as mile munchers. They are performance bikes. There are constraints that come with such massive performance.

    I agree.

    the order of niceness is

    998, 748, 1098, 999.

    The tricolore 1098 is €28k and the desmosedici is €60k or so.

    I'd love a 748r.

    Do not like the 1098 one bit.
    But with so many eejits dumping their older (and unused) garage bikes to buy 1098s the 2nd hand price on Ducatis makes for bargains.
    Im thinking of skipping out on expenses like food and healthcare to get one :D

    Saw one of these in town a couple of weeks back.. Ended up trying to follow it around the streets of Dublin in the car.. Gave up after 20 minutes.. Family was getting tired and restless...

    Damn you Ducati, with your red sexiness.. I couldn't use one, couldn't afford one, but it doesn't stop me wanting one..

    I agree with some of the guys here. the 998 was the sexiest duke yet. However it was also most likely the most unreliable... or well was second only to the 916.
    The 1098 is a beautiful bike ... particularly in the flesh. then again... so is an r1 or an mv agusta. Any of those exotic high powered sports bikes are eye catchingly stunning.
    Only 1 liter bike I think that looks fugly these days is the 2007 stock gsxr 1000 with those horrible cans either side.. the 2006 and 2005 gsxr 1000 were much more attractive bikes....

    I traded rice (My Blackbird) for spaghetti (My 916), and I have to agree about the reliability. In my 6 years of Blackbird ownership, it didn't skip as much as a beat, but the 916 has had several issues. I still love it though, despite all it's issues.

    it is the the best looking bike out there for sure. But that price. how do ya explain to the wife your bike costs that much and still manage to keep you balls.
