Just ordered a new mac mini.

    1.8 c2d
    80 hd
    2 ram

Nothing much else to say. Im just so excited. :o Always loved Minis.

Anyone else here rockin a mini?

It left me in debt so Ill have to use a crappy old CRT until I can afford a flatscreen. Am I right in thinking minis dont support dual screens, so a bigger screen would be desireable?

Does anyone know where in Ireland (or a reliable source online) I can buy one of those stack hard drive jobs?? Can you get them in firewire versions aswell as usb?

    Cheers.

It doesn't have the same mini-dvi port which the iMacs have anyway.
I have a dual screen setup on my iMac, tis great. It would be a shame if the Mini didn't allow dual screening.

All I can see from the tech spec of the Mini is that it has a standard VGA slot.

it has a full size DVI port. If you want 2 screens you have to use something like Matrox's DualHead2Go

I'm looking into ordering a mini as well (want DVD-RW myself though), so I checked prices and Dabs are slightly cheaper than Komplett for the Iomega Minimax range of HDDs with hubs. And from what I read in reviews, you can set them to be a Firewire drive (maybe even boot off it?) while using the USB hub. :)

*edit*Also note that the graphics chipset in the mini won't support higher than 2x 1024x768 using a Matrox DualHead2Go

2*1920x1200 for the digital edition, and 2*1280x1024 for the analog edition....according to the website

reading this, at point 4....... http://voice.firefallpro.com/2006/02/mini-w-dual-monitors-part-deux.html suggests that the mac mini will indeed drive the 2*1280x1024

Might be of interest if you're around Dublin city centre.

Theres a shop with an apple logo (its mainly photography stuff) just below grafton street by that Molly Malone statue. I was in there on sunday and they are doing the older mac minis (the 1.6Ghz ones) for €500 clearance sale at the moment. Save about €100 on a mini so not too bad though its the older spec machine.

Are you sure? The Compatibility Page seems to suggest that G4 minis can drive 2560x1024 (2x 1280x1024 (due to the Radeon 9550 I'm guessing), whereas the "Mac mini" is listed as 2048x768
    (2x 1024x768)
(which I imagine is due to the inferior Intel GMA950 chipset used).

    Cheers for the replys peeps.

Ill look into the matrox thing, though I dont think Ill be affording a dual screen setup any time soon!

Kiki - Have you shopped with dabs.ie before? Are they any good?

Im kind of old fashioned, I prefer to get everything from Komplett, though it seems they dont stock those mini stack type of exernals.

I haven't personally, but 2 of my good friends have, and they swear by Dabs now. Said delivery was speedy.

Oh, and now that I think of it -- I hope that USB monitors () like this one take off (and include OSX support!
*edit*Komplett had them in stock -- but at €319, aka same price as a 22" non-USB monitor, ouch! :()

It suffered from the all-too-common problem of breaking down just as the warranty is over. In its defence, it did take a long-haul flight to Japan, but I had it well protected in my hand luggage.

Still the best computer-related purchase I ever made.

Maybe you can fix it by replacing the HDD/reseating the CPU/RAM or similar?

Yeah, I`ve been tinkering around but I`m gonna wait until I have access to another computer to test out various bits and bobs.
