Screen messed up on startup...

Something kinda weird has been happening lately when I start up my macbook....

When the log in window appears (the one where you input your password) the display is all messed up.. as in the log in window is about twice as big as usual and offset to the right, and the resolution seems bad also...

To fix it, I simply put it to sleep by closing and opening the lid... when it wakes (still on log in screen btw) the display is perfect...

    Anyone ever experience this before?

I have a feeling its something to do with the fact I was using an external display a few days ago... it did it the first time on the first restart after having used the external display.

    Thanks, John.

It just sounds like it's starting on a really low res.
Go to sys prefs/displays, change to a different resolution and change back to the highest, see if that helps.

Could it be that your machine believes its still connected to the second display and is trying to split the Desktop over two screens? Might be worth hjaving a look at your screen sharing pref's and see what they're set to. Make sure the Laptop screen is set as primary.

This has happened to me and sounds like what you are describing OP - links in with Oriel's point as well, which would be what is actually happening to the screen when it thinks that it is sharing the display. As both posters say, straight to sys prefs and 're-detect- you display as a starting troubleshoot point I would say.
