kinda hard to tell. the first graduating year of that course only finished in May. I guess it kinda depends on what strand you take, if you take the language option I'd imagine you'd have a lot easier time trying to find a job than without it

i'm close to accepting that offer ,thanks :D

I can tell you that the lecurers of Law and Government are all excellent and pretty sound to boot, I do the sister course EPL, and I know most of the lecturers. I've never heard many complaints about the course apart from the usual things that have to be ironed out for any new course. If you have an interest in politics or current affairs at all it'll deffinately keep you interested.

I do EPL too, never heard any complaints about the IR course and I'd be friends with a quite a few people doing it!!

It's definately an interesting course and most of the lecturers are dead sound!!

Yeah one of my friends just graduated from from the IR course so I could ask what everyone else is doing. He hasn't got a job out of it yet but he only graduated a couple months ago. Although if you do intra it would help to have the experience to put on a CV.

Not sure how many hours a week it is. I'd say its around the same as business which is like 12/14. Engineering is 30hrs (just to give ya an idea of how small 14 hours is. ) Each day tends to vary but on wed and fri students in all courses have less hours...they try to give you a half day which is nice.

there's no intra on the international relations course. there's an option of a year abroad however. yeah the hours are around 11 - 15, but you'll do a lot of work on essays and research. the emphasis on the course is mainly on essays as opposed to exams

Does a fella called Peter (not sure of surname) lecture in IR? Kind of balding chap. Would be in his 40s I suppose

There's a lecturer called Peadar Kirby who fits your description - no Peter though. He's written quite a few books if you look him up on Amazon.

No definitely not him. Cheers though. Last time I came across him was 1999 at CTYI so he's probably long gone

I don't know all the lecturers in the school but if its not the Great Dr. Gary Murphy I'd be very surprised. He's a legend! Haven't had any of his modules but I was class rep for EPL1 just gone and had quite a few dealings with him. LIVES for students.

You'd think a course like this would have some modules options for asian related electives. Especially a Chinese language option. In my opinion it's a big oversight on the behalf of the coordinators...

well the languages options will depend on what SALIS are able and willing to provide classes for and since they are only introducing Chinese modules in their own courses, starting either this year or next, I can't remember which, Chinese just simply wouldn't have been an option for the people who run IR.
As for modules dealing with Asian politics, well once you have the grounding in politics that this course will give you, a little bit of independant learning on Asia wont be hard at all. It all comes down to rescources unfortunately. If none of the existing lectures are experts on Asia then it just might not be cost effective to hire in someone who is. That said, it's a new enough course and always evolving so these things might be added in time

For the record, I didn't come up with the Great Gary Murphy bit, although I do approve. Prof. Robert Elgie calls him GGM.

Considering doing this course next year. Just wondering, what are the job opportunities like after it?
