    Hi,

Anyone use a classic car as their daily driver. Missus has the good car. Don't do any travelling for work anymore so drive a non-descript '91 Corolla. Only doing about 8 miles each day to & from work. Have a 1985 MR2 as my "Classic". Not really in to modern cars so wondering if its possible to insure an older car as your daily driver - MK2 Escort/Cortina. Anyone do this & who's good for Insurance. I'm with Hibernian for the Corolla & also classic Insurance for the MR2. They don't seem to do Insurance for an older car as the daily driver. Anyone do this & any tips.

    Thanks,

    T.

Some classic car policys allow your main insurance to be on your Missus car.
So if your named on her car you can get classic insurance on your everyday "Classic car"

Using the Mercedes W123 daily. Also have an E28 BMW in the wings.

Never had a problem with getting insurance issue so long it's NCTed. Dunno about using a 60s or 70s car but sure so long as it's NCTed, hence deemed roadworthy, there's no reason ot be refused insurance. Used Hibernian and FBD for insurance.

Insured with AXA on a 1972 DAF 66, regular policy, daily driver. Hibernian will insure older cars on regular policies too.

I put up 10,000kms in 9 months on a 1972 Merc diesel with no issues.

There was a similar thread recently, T, you might find some more info there.

I'm using a Stag practically every day, 20 miles each way to work and back. It's a running project, so I don't mind fixing it as I go along - latest woes are leaky door seals.

And a new burning smell to try and identify each day joking :-)

Nice new clutch in the car (had it fitted in Galway at 1/3 the prices quoted in Dublin) so it goes really well

I'm using a 72 DS daily. First Ireland will insure your classic as your only car, but it is expensive (€630 for me with a 10,000 mile limit, fully comp and that's with full no claims discount)

^^^ ditto on the 72 Merc, plus if your classic is on a standard policy you will most likely need to get an engineers reports done on it.

I just had mine MOT'd prior to bringing it over from the UK. AXA were happy with that in lieu of an engineer's report.
