Just saw at the Mahon Point Sky stand that they can do Sky + for €69?

Does anyone know for existing subscribers what the best price would be? My brother in law is looking to get it but he's not got any phone line so does anyone know what the procedure is for that? I remember reading somewhere that you can pay a fee to waive that - would he be better off cancelling his current subscripton and getting a new one as a new subscriber? I presume he'll have to get it in a different name?

I asked about that over in Mahon Point, it's an offer for new customers only, and the boxes are reconditioned ones...

He said that the offer is only available at the stands to increase their sales... I think he said a Sky+ box costs like €139 or something for existing customers...

    What's happening in September?

Just called Sky there and got through to a Cork boi....said that it's not possible to get Sky + without phone line - i'm sure i saw somewhere here on the forums that it is if you pay a fee??? Can anyone shed some light on this?

diddly squat as far I know. The current offers just expire the end of August, so there may be some better ones, I wouldn't hold my breath though.

Current sky price offer is €149 and standard install costs €49...which I reckon is likely to increase to €75 as most sky installers are complaining over this decrease....

You only need a phone line to do a 'callback', afterwards you can forget about it.

You need the phone line. If 6 weeks down the road the phone line still isn't connected you will get billed by sky and/or your service will be switched off. No phone line = no sky +.

    What a load of rubbish!
I had Sky HD for 8 months with no phone line and my sister has had Sky + for 2 years and never had a phone line attached. The damn boxes are used all over Europe for God's sake! The only times it's checked is on a multiroom sub or in the first 12 months of a contract where a person has got his/her box for half price or something.
Buy your Sky + box yourself (around €149) and safely forget the phone line after 'callback'.
You do NOT need a phone line for Sky +!!

No need to be agressive. If you read the initial post correctly you would notice that he is inquiring about sky+ on a new subscription.Try getting either sky+ or a skyHD installation without a phone line. Sky won't pair a card without a callback completed. Unplug your phone line within those 12 months at your peril and wait for the bill from sky. The only sky subscription you can get without a phone line is a regular sky box and a 37.50 fee on top of that.

I was referring to your comment of "No phone line = no sky +" which is simply not true. I was certainly not trying to be aggressive!
I repeat what I said earlier. Use a phone line (even at your friends house) to do a callback. Then ring Sky to pair card to box and activate Sky +. You'll be asked if the phone line is connected. Say yes, it is. End of story.
I am not referring to a subsidised box so can't understand your 'wait for the bill from sky' comment.
I know loads of people enjoying Sky + for years with no phone connection whatsoever.
    regards

I have Sky+ installed for over 12 months now and do not have it connected nor had I ever got in connected to phoneline.

If you install yourselft and get Sky to upgrade an existing card, they will do it without a phone line. Sky installs need a phone line.

    Hey Guys,

I'm living in Luxembourg and have arranged Irish Sky through a company back in Ireland. They provided me with a Pace Sky+ box and provided the Irish address for my Sky subscription. I am then billed monthly as per usual by SKY via my creditcard. When my subscription was activated I noticed that I didn't have 'Live Pause'. So I have called the company in Ireland numerous times to contact SKY to send a signal to upgrade me Sky+. They assure me they have done so on each occasion, but still I sit here now and the Sky+ has still not been activated.

From reading this forum, I'm thinking maybe I am not being upgraded because I don't have a telephone line connected to the box so have not initiated a callback. But as I am living abroad, will it still work if I connect my phone to the box ? Or won't SKY know that I am using a phone form abroad which will provide me with even more problems ?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The Rugby World Cup is approaching and I'd really like to get this working before it kicks off !!

    Thanks in Advance.
    Damien

Plugging a Luxembourg phoneline into an Irish Skybox will be fruitless, as the Skybox has a pre-determined number it rings, which is also a freefone number that can only be dialled from within Ireland.

Anyway, you don't need a phoneline connected to activate Sky+ features. I'm assuming you mean all your Sky+ recording features don't work? Or is it just Live Pause (which can be enabled or disabled at will within the Services menu)?

Exactly, none of the Sky+ work. The company I deal with assure me that they have contacted sky on each occasion about activating it. I must have tried about 10 times now over the past few months. But each time, same result. I wait a couple of days and nothing. They're at a loss for what to do except request Sky to send the signal again. And at this stage I'm at a total loss for what to do. I'm finding it just pointless to contact the company anymore to tell them it doesn't work.

    Thanks for your input anyway.

The Sky + features are enabled over the air but at the end of the day you only have their (the company you're dealing with) word that they even bothered to ring sky.

Do you have access to the address, name, and SKy password that was used for you?

I can only take them at their word that they called I know. But I have no reason to distrust them. I asked them to get Setanta Ireland activated for me last week and I had it later that evening.

I don't have the Address, name and password they used for me. But I guess I could get my hands on them. Had you something in mind ?

    Not true!

I have sky HD and don't have a phone line.

I have NTL and use blueface for my telephone calls but this cannot accept callbacks from sky. The trick is to ring them up and go through the activation as normal. When the callback fails they'll get you to try again if it fails again they'll activate and pair the card themselves. Bingo problem solved.

I played dumb and asked them why it wouldn't activate and could it be a faulty Sky HD box and was told that they have been having lots of problems with the callbacks.

It's the box that calls back to Sky after being told by by satellite. Sky never ring you.

Sky need to change how this works as over 31% of households don't have a phone line and an unknown number are so pair gained even fax won't work, much less a modem.

well when we got sky into the new house we hadnt our phone yet so the installer ran a phone line into next door to do the initial callback and then left telling us to plug the phone in when it was installed but never bothered its been over a year now(almost 2)

Where has anyone one said sky rings you?

FYI: Thanks to all answers relating to my questions.

I got home tonight and to my complete surprise, the Sky+ has been activated. No phone line needed, just a lot of persistence with calling SKY.

    Thanks again.
