Hi! I just accepted my offer for DC114(Int. Business with Spanish). Randomly woke up just before six this morning. What happened to my lie in?! :( Feels like ages til college starts. I wanna start now! Gives me ages to spend all my money on new clothes though so who am I to complain? Not that I need any more seeing as my wardrobe has now encompassed the hot water press :o Maybe it's a good thing I didn't go for student accommodation. Heard the wardrobe space isn't too good so my room would just be covered. Penneys is just too good to resist buying things in every colour at times...

Word of warning, stay away from Matthew...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,217 ✭✭✭Matthewthebig

She knows me anyways, from ages ago.

And why stay away from me? :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,386 ✭✭✭Attol

I'll try. He lives 2 mins away though so it may be difficult :( Somebody help!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,269 ✭✭✭cocoa

I'll be there (currently am there but that's neither here nor there...)

I accepted DC200 common entry to engineering (Electrical) this morning. Will hopefully get an offer for the accomodation soon as I did apply fairly early and I think they give preference to people who got over 550.

Anyone else hoping to stay in Larkfield?

I can't wait for term to start and to move out :) See you all there in four weeks.

One of my friends(male) did that last year and hated it. It was him one other lad and 20 girls. He is now on his way to Maynooth to do Arts.

I am gonna accept Computer Applications but I am currenly in Maynooth doing Computer Science & SE. But if I fail my repeats I will be going to DCU, reason why I wont be repeating in Maynooth is because they have changed the course to where I have to do two general Science subjects.

I've already gotten my DCU top :D I got it while playing with NUIM soccer team in the Collingwood Cup last year.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm taking a year out, though, so I'll actually be just gone 21 when I start 4th year.

This is a really good course and a lot of my friends are doing it. The European business with a language course is more geared towards business than the international business course but less so than pure business studies.

One thing I would say, though, is that the language part requires a lot of effort on your own. You can't learn a language by cramming just before the exams. If you get the opportunity, you should look at spending some time in Spain next summer. Maybe you've already done this stuff and don't need to be told, just offering my 2 cents.

And sorry to be totally newbie...but could anyone explain the whole credit systems to me?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,615 ✭✭✭Mr.Plough

think you need a certain number of credits to get a degree, credits assigned based on workload etc. standard full one semester module gets 5 credits.

    im probably wrong though

Going into 4th year finance and actuarial maths. Or FM4 if you don't want to sound like an uber geek n00b lolz etc etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,152 ✭✭✭carlowboy

Shadowless, you enjoy it? I'm heading into frist year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 396 ✭✭Shadowless

Ah yeah it's good craic. My class are cool and while some of the lecturers are a bit iffy at the end of the day your coming out with a serious degree which gives you alot of options and a chance at some serious $$$. I'm on Intra now at the minute doing the actuary thing and enjoying it although I'm also considering getting into trading when I finish.

As regards first year advice, I'd recommend concentrating hard on getting a good economics mark as it's the only full exemption exam you have in first year and it catches alot of people out. (each exemption you have means an extra €1000 a year if you start in an actuarial job after college so it's well worth doin a bit extra work in them :p )
If you're good at Maths you'll fly through the other exams. Even if you think you're lost it'll all make sense come exam time so don't panic. The Maths doesn't really get tough til 2nd year tbh.
Most of the FM students find Computer Programming a doddle too.

Hope that answers a few of your questons. PM me if you've anythin more specific, don't wanna hi-jack the thread. :D
