    Hey folks
First time using the boards just gotta question concerning multi-room and sky plus, I've had regular sky for 6 years and want to get a long overdue sky plus box and multi-room but whats been putting me off is whether i have to connect the boxes to a phone line which isn't really viable for me so basically could someone just clarify exactly what sky require if I order multi-room and a new box. thanks

Multi-room requires you to agree to a new contract (12 months). A condition of the multi-room offer is that both boxes must be connected to the same working 'phone line. I got multi-room in May '06. In October/Nov I was written to by SKY to say that I was not honouring the 'phone line condition and that they would cease my subscription if I didn't sort it out. Turned out to be a bad connection, which was easily fixed - I forced the box to do a callback. Checked with their call centre who said all was ok and never heard anything subsequently.

You don't need to take multiroom. You can use your current digibox for watching the free satellite channels in another room. Just need to route a cable from the LNB to the second location. As you more than likely know, a Sky+ box needs two LNB connections for full functionality.

All boxes part of a multiroom sub need to be connected to the same phone line or else you pay for two full subscriptions. I think installing a phone socket is a good move considering how much you'd save.

How can you check that your phone line is connected properly. It was mentioned in the above thread 'force a callback'. How is that done?

If I recall correctly you press "services" on the remote and then system set up (or 4) and then system test (or 7). My phone line is now disconnected and i cant be sure if this is correct or not but I think it is.

@OP. I had the sky+ and multiroom but have since cancelled. You MUST have both boxes connected to the same phone line. Apparently the boxes perform an auto call back in the middle of the night and Sky can then detect if they are connected or not. I had the telephone cables removed (twice) and they wrote to me twice and advised that I would have to pay the full cost of the Sky+ box if I didnt keep them connected

Apologies - I couldn't get back into this thread last night - boards.ie reporting a "database error".

You force a callback by going into "Services" menu and then selecting "New Installation".
