i recently had my hair proffessionally dyed bright red underneath and a really dark kinda black cherry on top. the time before this that i dyed it they had to bleach the under part twice to make it go bright red because it was so dark to begin with. my question is if i want to dye my hair black now with department store dye is it gonna make the red go fully black? or will it not quite go black underneath because it's not dark to begin with? do i have to go back to the salon to get them to make it all black or can i do it myself at home to save money? please help!:(

Because there is already a red colour in your hair it should be okay. That said the black will fade over time and how well the colour turns out initially and how your hair will look afterwards depends on the condition of your hair and the product you use. If you don't know what you're doing then you should get your hair tinted (you dye fabrics btw) by a professional.

its likely that the red you have wil start showing through after a while, you're better off getting that done in a salon so it won't affect your scalp and the dye will be stronger. good luck.
