VRT based on Market Value

    Here is the issue.
I tried to buy TATA Safari 4X4 Turbo Diesel from UK and checked VRT on www.revenue.ie. The website shown the market value of 04 model as €17500. While even in UK the car is almost being sold for nothing (hardly 5k).
Means TATA model has no resale value what so ever in UK or Ireland.
What should i do in this case for VRT, if i buy the car and pay VRT it cost me around 10K but who will buy TATA Safari in Ireland for €17k.
Will Revenue consider cases like that?
I mean the market value of the car they have shown on revenue.ie is not the actual market value is in it.
I feel that is should be based on model, Tata model is not hot sale in Ireland?
Has anyone has any idea of this situation?
Has revenue ever came out with case to case base?
Will revenue think this pratical way?

Due to VRT, the three or so passenger Tata Safaris ever imported into Ireland had a list price of 20 something thousand, the commercials of 12k or so.

The VRT people have just applied "normal" rates of depreciation to the starting price.
I did inquire about a year ago (thinking I had spotted a possible bargain) and there was no arguing with them.

As there aren't any second hand ones for sale in the republic, you have no arguments to prove them wrong.

That and the fact that the Tata Safari really is pretty woeful made me abandon the bargain hunt.

Here's an Irish one. I'm sure you'd knock at least another 10% off in negeotiation...
