Proximity of a dwelling to ESB HT Lines

I'm hoping you people can help me out.

I'm thinking of building a house on a site, for my wife and I.

One of the main Drawbacks is that the site proposed has 3 HT ESB power lines running over it. The Pylons/poles are situated in fields either side of the site.

What are the rules governing the building of DOMESTIC dwellings in the proximity of these Ht Lines? (Distance from lines etc)

Looking forward to benefiting from your vast knowledge!

    MR TR

There is indeed a certain distance but it depends on the voltage. It can vary from 5 to 20 metres. You will need to contact your local ESB office and be advised by them or forward a copy of a map showing the approx. location of the lines to the nearest engineering section.

by the sounds of your post your are under the very high voltage lines you might get it hard to build anywhere near them.

there are lowervoltage lines running across the corner of my site the only feed two houses think the call them 10kva lines and i have to get these moved it was a flagged during the further information request from kildare coco(i want them moved anyway).

i contacted the esb at the start got it hard to find anyone who was really intrested but the did give me a letter saying the would move them.

getting ready to start and need them moved so i can get lorries onto the site but the have no intrest unless i pay them 3k right now even thou i wont need esb for over a year.

try to find someone local that works for them and use that as a way in.

IT all depends on what you mean b y HT lines. IS it a 10/20 kV line, 38kV line or something bigger.

Here is the guidelines for use with 10/20kV lines. If it is a higher voltage line then it will be further away, but this is the minimum allowed.

But like the other two posters have said, best to contact the ESB. At the end of they day, they will tell you whether it is too close or not no matter what you think.

Whilst the official line is that the link between high tension power cables and illnesses such as leukaemia is weak, I for one would never consider buying a house or site within half a mile of a power line. You could read this for some further information.....
