    Hi,
Im planning to buy a car in the uk (8 grand) from a dealer that looks pretty reputable. They said they would do a deal for cash, but Ive no idea what the deal would be. Does anybody have an idea what a cash discount would be like? Also what kind of haggle room should I look for?

    Thanks
    Stephen.

    Stephen,

Firstly, I am guessing that you will be bringing the car back to Ireland. If so, the dealers price probably includes some sort of limited warranty - tell them that you don't want a warranty (I doubt if you will drive the car back to UK if there is a problem with it) and get them to knock a couple of hundred off for that.

The amound of discount you can negotiate depends on the typ of car you are getting. If it is a very common car then haggle hard and don't be afraid to walk away if you don't get a good deal. There is a much wider choice of cars in the UK so you can afford to be picky.
Before you go, line up another 2 or 3 cars to look at just incase this deal falls through.

If the car or spec isn't that common or highly desirable then it might be more difficult to negotiate a cheaper price. I have bought loads of cars in England over the years and on some I have struggled to get 400-500 discount for cash and on others I have gotten upto 3000.

JUST WATCH OUT FOR FLOOD DAMAGED VEHICLES.

Just bear in mind also that the VRT is determined by the valuation that the VRT office put on the vehicle and not based on what you pay for it.
