This thread is probably going to get moved shortly, but anyway - your best bet is to look at something like Aidan Walsh's signature and follow the links there. :)

    Moved from Bargain Alerts.

Antivirus-AVG, avast! or Antivir (pick one)
Spyware/Malware-Ad-Aware, Spybot-Search and Destroy or Spyware Blaster
Firewall-Comodo Firewall Pro, Zone Alarm or Kerio.

Are you sure about that? I have never encountered a new pc/laptop without at least a trial version of anti-virus software. It is most unusual since AV companies use it as a marketing tool and pay Dell for the privilege.

Then again, I've never encountered a Dell Vostro. :D

You are correct Tom, my mistake. 30 days McAfee free trial. Should I use the 30 day free trial and in that time should I download as suggested in earlier posts? Another question what does Roxio Creator 9.0 DE do? Disc with computer says to install but coming up already installed or will message change when I go online? Thanks again

Go ahead and use the 30 day trial but don't bother with it after that, make sure whatever you end up doing, just keep your Windows, anti-virus and anti-spyware/malware up-to-date. I have never had much success with McAfee and just remove any preinstalled AV on machines I buy and use avast! That Roxio software is for burning CDs or DVDs I would imagine. It would be preinstalled and the disc you got would be for reinstallation if you had an accident.

Post reminds, get Dell De-Crapifier here ->http://www.yorkspace.com/pc-de-crapifier/

I'd get rid of the anti virus that came with it straight away. But then again the first thing I would have would be to format and get rid of all the crap dell install on your laptop.
