i have one question on this movie, can anyone give an opinion on it

Is the blonde who survives - insane and is she the one who is killing all the other girls,

she is around when the rest of them die
the subhuman creatures only use "hearing" and sense the girls yet when she is in the cave and one walk right over her , it doesnt know she is there.

plus the ending, confusing she escapes then, is in the car then wakes up back in the cave over the body of one of her mates??? WTF

anyone explain or know the answers,

    Lionsgate is making a 2nd - De2cent,

putting a big *spoiler * around the thread title would be appreciate by anyone who hasn't seen the film.. .

saw the film a few years ago, but can't remember the specifics,
afair i had similar thoughts to you,
(she killed everyone) but just ended up thinking, her escaping was a dream or something and that there really was an underground killing thing.

I've edited the thread title. Black Jack, next time, make it clear that there'll be spoilers, don't ruin the film for people who've not seen it.

so basiaclly, there were no monsters?

It's been ages since I've seen it but I kinda thought the whole thing was that she thought she was free etc, but it just turns out she had passed out and woke up still in the cave?

I don't think you can have it that she was dreaming up the monsters and then really killing everyone herself, cause that doesn't explain the other girl who goes on a bit of a killing spree. I don't think this is an aul Fight Club here, just that to give a big twist at the end they make her wake up. Dun dun dunnnnn. I could be wrong, it's been a long time as I said.

    OK lets clear this up

First off there are two versions of The Decent
American Version - She has a dream and gets to the car and thats it

UK Version - She has a dream, scapes, gets to the car only to wake up back in the cave going mad and dreaming at the same time while in a pitch black cave with the monsters all around as she can hear all the sounds around her...ends at that

Basically yes there are monsters and while we don't see her die she basically is killed by the monsters

Good little film marred a bit by the fact that all the characters are incredibly unappealing.

I agree that there were monsters, and the whole 'escape' ending was just a dream (or reality in the case of the Americanised version).

I must say though - best horror film Ive seen in years. Scared the hell out of me.

Wonder why there were two endingds like that.

Wonder why there were two endingds like that.

American audiences didn't react well to the UK ending,

when the Decent came out in the UK, it took another year untill it was released in the US.

imho its one of the best horror films in years, very nicely made :)

As far as i remember, the reason one of the creatures climbed over her without noticing her was because they were creatures that used sound to navigate(like bats) and could not see. So because she wasn't moving or making noise, the creature didn't notice her.
As for the ending, I thought is was just a twist at the end to make it seem like she had got out but she was really just dreaming and that she is still stuck in the cave.

I don't remember anything in the movie to really base her killing all the others on, but it has been a while since i've seen it.

As for the movie itself, i place it in the Braindead camp, gory as hell but nothing really special about it.

My impression was (although I've not seen it since the cinema) was that
:she did indeed escape, and that she started going back to the cave out of her own volition. She went a bit mad the first time and ended up liking it there (like Sam Neill's character in Event Horizon, divided by about one million).

It was a real gorefest with too many jump scare moments that led to nothing, but overall it was a very well made horror that scared the hell outta me too.

From what I took from it though, there were monsters and she didn't kill 'em all. She had a dream of escaping, but only fell asleep in the cave with the monsters creeping in around her. I think it'd be a real let down if at the end we discovered she was a wacko killer.

    Great film.

Been awhile since ive seen it but i thought it wasnt an ambiguous ending ala amercian psycho but a twist ending ala fight club.

She falls asleep/gets knocked out in the caves and dreams of getting out. Then she wakes up to find she's still there and will eventually die....

No way is she a killer or whatever

Good film but why does every horror film nowadays have to have a particularly nasty denouement? Horror films don't need to have downbeat endings where everyone gets killed and there's no hope left to be effective. John Carpenter never killed off all his characters and he's made some of the classic horror movies. There was always someone to root for.
It's like filmmakers now take pleasure in brutalising their characters for 90 minutes only to kill them anyway in the end. Surely the whole point of a horror movie is so we can connect with a character, experience something horrific through their eyes but overcome it and 'survive' the experience. So many good horror films are spoiled by these endings. I blame Rob Zombie. I can only imagine what'll happen to the Laurie Strode character in his Halloween. His film will be ten times more brutal than Carpenters but not nearly as scary.

Well, I would have though that the monster were a figment of her imagination.
But apparently the director, in interviews and commentaries, has pretty mucH stated that the monsters were real.

Especially since there is a sequel in the works.

    **SPOILERS**

dont think so, the Director has said there will be a De2cent, and it will carry on from the first, the main character is still there but he has said she will most definetly die in the sequel, this is the way it has to happen,

so.... we will see what happened, i guess, just always bugged me, seems its open and we must wait for the sequel,
