Get too old, or die etc....

I was talking to a friend about the top ten worldwide events that I would love to do. For this I'm talking about a pilgrimige of sorts, not just going to a music festival in a county beside dublin! I havent been able to complete my list, so far I have thought off

1)Running of the bulls in Pamplona
2)The Burning Man Festival (Find the Irish Pub!)
    3)Monaco Grand Prix
4)The Chernobyl Appeal (Ali Hueson & Adi Roche) raise money every year to buy a few ambulences which are filled with medicine and driven to Chernobyl. I would love to drive one of them over. Good Karma.
5)A motorbike tour accross Route 66 before it gets too run down!

I'm stuck after that, I just can't remember the rest, perhaps thats the hangover???

i know someone that did number 3 by accident!

i've been to monaco a few times. i dont see how u can isolate that. like why not Silverstone or nurbergring?

suppose swimming with dolphins or some other hippy stuff like that could be included.

Whats that tomato throwing festival in Spain? Tortalamino or something?
Go to an Olympic Games or World Cup Finals

I wouldn't even give that kildare music festival a mention. Waayy better ones around the world to go to.

A Bull Run in Spain was always one of mine and got to do it last year but never again.

It wasn't that major one in Valencia/Pamplona where they throw spears and kill the bull :( It was in the back arse of nowhere, a real Spanish town where no one spoke English, with the smaller travelling bull runs where the bull legs it around after you and impales his fair share of bodies!

The way they treat these bulls is unbelievable, they seem to have so much respect for the animals but there's still something wrong about the whole thing

I'd love to see the aurora borealis.

Done, easily done if you live in Donegal...

Thread discussing this in Astronomy & Space at the moment:

Of course if you live in North Kildare you can do the cheapseat option - go to the RTÉ 252 mast at about 6am in fog, when they crank it up to 300kW for the daytime it creates a corona through the fog. Was much better in the Altantic days when they ran at 500kW though. :D

Yeah, Running with the Bulls in Pamplona was the most exhilerating thing I've done. It was brilliant. Was only going to stay one day but stayed three in the end.

Visiting the Atomic Dome in Hiroshima was the most moving tourist site I've visited, though lots of the dolmens and passage tombs in Ireland are good too, esp that one in Sligo that are like beehive huts on the tops of hills at the end of a stony road.

I'd always wanted to do the Oktoberfest when I was young but my drinking capacity is drastically reduced nowadays, kinda a waste to go now, apart from the food...

Tomatina would be good. I think in Valencia at Easter there is a big bonfire type festival. They make loads of papier mache models, huge they are. Then at the end of the festival they burn them all except the winning model. Imagine the St. Patrick's Day parade where they burn all the floats at the end of it!!! I was at the museum where they keep the winning 'float' one time and there were photos of previous festivals, it looked pretty good.

My favourite place that I visited in the US was Monument Valley at NW Arizona. The Grand Canyon's a hole in the ground, (shrugs shoulders.)

Saw the Aurora. It's cool. Drove Route 66 (most of it). Can't think of too many others I'd like to do now. Imagination dying with age!

How about Venice? Maybe not as wild and adventerous but amazing none the less?

Such a beautiful place, no cars, no rushing. It's just so calm

Love Parade was cancelled this year, was truly incredible last year 1.5 m people dancing in Tiergarten. Aurora Borealis was visible a few years ago over Kildare, would love to go to Iceland though and may enjoy ;) a full moon party in Thailand before I die....

    xzanti wrote:

It's **** now compared to 7 or 8 years ago, was even cancelled for a few years. I think it was after 2001 that it went downhill, the law in Germany claimed that the parade was a commercial event and this meant the organisers would be held legally responsible for all costs. Was much better before when they weren't :D

Oh, and it won't be in Berlin either as they couldn't get permission from the relative authorities to hold it there.

That's something I want to do again, best party I've been to. It's amazing dancing in the morning on sunrise beach watching the sun come up over the ocean. Even as drunk as I was I still couldn't jump in the water and swim considering everyone on the beach had been using it as a toilet for the previous 12 hours

I've always wanted to climb Everest, maybe not all the way but base camp is still 8,000 feet up. That bull-run would be cool too, I'd say it really gets the adrenaline flowing

win a huge jackpot in a Vegas casino (been trying for years now with no luck  )

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,584 ✭✭✭shane86

Go to Vegas, get paralytic drunk and wake up next to a stripper I had met at 7pm and married before midnight.

Run into Eamonn Dunphy in a bar/club in town and chat about Rafa, Jose, Keano, Stan/Ireland and of course, Cristiano and John Delaney :D (work once held a Friday night do in Renards nightclub for us, was disappointed the mouth wasnt there as hes a regular i think :( )

Appear on tv rubbered (happy Sky 1 Ibiza Uncovered type drunk, not giving abuse/making an arse of myself like the knobs you see on that Bouncers show on ITV :) )

Rattle the arse off either the young blonde bird from Heroes or Catalina from My Name is Earl.

    Either.

    Or preferably both.

    At the same time ;)
