Jacket question

I'll just move this over to a new thread.

For boots I'd go into a shop and buy them. That way you can try them on and make sure they fit. If you're near Dublin then go to Great Outdoors and have them fitted properly. They do it for free only charging for the extra's required to make the boot fit properly. Money well spent. Personally if I were outside of Dublin I'd still travel for the boot fitting service, its that good.

As for the jackets, if you're spending that kind of money you could go into a shop like Great Outdoors, the Lowe Alpine store in Tullamore (I think) or the Patagonia outlet store in Dublin and save yourself a few quid for a jacket that you know fits and is both suitable for your purpose and comfortable.

The no entiendo factor with that website was a bit high.
My advice about a jacket for walking/climbing in Ireland is.
    1. Get a light jacket. You can put a fleece under it if it is cold.
    2. Pockets. You need a big one inside for maps. If you are wearing a rucksack you need pockets high and low. With a harness around your waist you need to be able to get at pockets without taking off the belt.
    3. Side. Weird one this. The side you open your jacket on really makes a difference. the extra second it takes you to open a jacket that is wrong handed will annoy you.
