I'm fond of the odd homemade smoothie after training or running or gym etc... Will usually throw in a coupla kiwis, some grapes, maybe a banana and some yogurt and OJ... I often just throw my protein powder in on top then, mix it and drink...

Does this lessen the effectiveness of your shake? Should I only take it with water/milk as directed?

    thanks people...

No its fine with a smoothie, it makes a nice change from water.

Should be ok. As far as I know you can get a Zumo smoothie with protein in it.

Yeah you can, but I wouldn't imagine they use "the good stuff" and probably only throw a token amount in anyway... Although it's a lovely smoothie I must say..

AFAIK it is a soya based protein powder. Some people aren't a big fan of Soya protein but me personally due to it's different amino acid profile, as compared to whey, which I usually would have, I like taking it occasionally. and although the portion size isn't huge it is still a good bit from what I can see.

Anyway back to what I was going to say, post workout it would be best to have a fruit smoothie compared to having it with water or milk, as the sugars in the fruit and OJ will help replace the glycogen stores used in your training

Would it be OK to lash a bit of creatine in there too?

Anyone else think these are seriously overpriced, I'm sure with the amount of fruit Zumo buy the must get it for next to nothing

then covering the cost of the shop, staff and trying to make a profit. Actually due to the amount of fruit that is used in making them I think they are actually quite good value for what you get.

I dont just becuase it can be a little grainy.

I have a mini blender and with protein in a smoothie it makes it fluff/froth up really nicely, and mixes it completely,

I cannot think why fruit would be bad. It is the equivalent of drinking the water/whey shake after eating fruit. As post workout some say avoid milk as it can slow absorption. I prefer adding fruit instead of glucose, or along with it. Pineapple juice + chunks + whey + ice, is lovely blended up.

Justs having one now after a 3-mile+ run.... Ahhh, tasty :)

Cheers everyone for your replies... I thought I'd read somewhere (here, actually!) that if you blend protein powder it 'kills' it a little and reduces it's effectiveness... Obviously got my wires crossed somewhere! Thanks again...

I would imagine the profits are quite big, otherwise they wouldn’t be everywhere with long queues of people. They can't have that many overheads, the shops are usually small or gust stalls in shopping centres so rent should be low, the don't need allot of equipment and I can't imagine they pay their staff well.
Just my opinion, I could be totally wrong.:)

Supply and demand. They are a business after all and if there are still queues outside their outlets then they could maybe even hike the prices up further. Stock up now!! Buy low, sell high.......
