Aertel

How come RTE are pushing Aertel like mad on radio adverts? In the UK it is known that teletext will cease when digital telly is introduced in the next few years. Presumably we'll be getting the digital telly here too, with the terrrestrial signal turned off. Are we going to do away with teletext too?

my main question is why rte is wasting time pushing aertel services when there may be no teletext in a few years?

    Anyone?

simply economics, by that i mean they make a SH1T load from it. They'll push it up until they dont make money from it

There's an equivalent service operating on Freeview. Not sure on details though. I do know aswell that many freeview boxes have some sort of teletext button on the remote.

I'm pretty sure that RTE signed a deal with some company to develop a digital text service for them.

Personally, I'm not a fan of digital text, in favour of good ol' fashioned fastext. If I want fancy text, I use the internet.

I read alot of channel 4/bbc text pages, so the bbc interactive is very handy for speed, hopefully channel 4 will upgrade thier interactive one to include most of the broador entertainment ones

I assume rte make loads outa advertising deals, competitions , people textin in,etc from it

Mossy Monk, I haven't heard of digital text. I have the basic ntl package, I presume it's available with sky etc. maybe so...

qwertplaywert, I use the bbc,rte and utv text services lots too. I don't like the ch4 ones, the colour background makes it hard to read, and the choice isn't as good as the other stations.

    thanks for replies.

Why shouldn't they keep up the Aertel brand when they switch to digital text? That's exactly what ITV, C4 and five have done. The only problem with it is that it's still called "Teletext" :p

Why should the company that runs the text service available on those three channels (which is called Teletext) change their name?

I use aertel a lot on the mobile phone web - I find it more structured than some of RTE's web content and I know what page number everything is on

They shouldn't but it might be easier to differentiate between the old and the new systems if the digital text was branded separately.
