    Hello,

Finally ordered it anyways from Sky itself.

Anyways, I was told that 8 days after installation, I would then enter into a contract with Sky for a year.

Now, everything going well, I will still be in the same place next year etc, and have sky, but what if something happens?

Say after 8 months, I decide to leave the property and go home and I dont need sky anymore, can I just cancel it? The Sales guy on the phone said that they would keep charging me. Any one any experience?

One more thing, does anyone have a contact email address for Sky? I cant find one on the site.

    Thanks again,

    D

You are obliged to continue the subscription for 12 months, as per the contract. If you try to quit early, they will charge a fee to go towards equipment or something.

You're obliged to keep a contract, yes, but you only have to keep the package for 2-3 months. After that you could downgrade to €21/month (cheapest package these days?) if you wanted. Unless this has changed since I originally got Sky, years ago - I've read nothing to say otherwise.

I didn't say he couldn't change his package. But he cannot cancel his subscription (outright).

    Oh bummer...

That is the one thing turning me off sky. But shur if you cancelled it from your bank account side, would that not stop it? Oh I dunno, seems like such hassle

Sure if you kept it for a time as long as 8 months, it would be worth just simply downgrading your package and finishing out your subscription. Then when you cancel, keep all the equipment for yourself and use it for FTA and not have to pay anything extra to do that. :)

FTA -- free-to-air. No viewing card is needed to watch FTA channels as they are unencrypted/in-the-clear.

Lots of channels are FTA on the same satellite Sky uses for its offerings, including the BBC channels, ITV, Sky News, lots of shopping channels and a handful of music channels.

No Irish terrestrial channels, however, without a valid Sky subscription.

Didn't mean to imply otherwise :)
