Right, trying to decide on the ultimate venue for the reception but I have no idea what to expect to pay for one!!

All the places I've contacted are very sketchy when it comes to actual prices and I don't want to ask straight out because I don't want them to know I'm clueless and end up getting ripped off!! I usually end up just being sent a menu and that's it. But I'm guessing you hav to pay for more than just the food!! It's very frustrating as I know F all about weddings and neither does my OH and we're the first of all our friends to do this!

So really what I'm asking is what is a "reasonable" price for a hotel, just the hotel, without the band, cake etc.

I know it depends on the place but I'm just talking a regular hotel here, not a castle or anything :)
Could people post prices they paid/ are paying? You don't have to give the names of the places or anything just roughly what it cost, what you got for the money, how many guests, how long ago it was and where abouts in the country ie South East, South West etc.

FYI: we won't have more than 100 people

Most hotels only charge you for the meal they serve, the venue itself and usually your room for the night are free of charge. You usually then organise the band, DJ and cake yourself but the hotel can give you a list of local providers which you can then choose from.

    Seriously?
Wow, ok well that explains why I'm only getting menus when I ask for price lists! Thanks for that. :)

Whoops, forgot about the wine if you choose to have some. You can usually do one of two things, use the wine from the hotels wine list which is usually twice as dear as that from an off licence, or bring your own but you're charged corkage for each bottle which will probably make the price about the same as the hotels which would probably make it not worth while. There's other little things like a supper menu of sausages and sambos etc and the bar extension but that should be all on the menu prices they send you.

Yeah for a huindred people factor in the hotel
Rooms for bride and groom and parents
Food for 100 (plus you need to give the photgrapher and priest a meal)
Sanwiches, tea and sausages for 50ish (usually half the total no)
Wine (A glass and two top ups) for each guest = 40 (roughly just under half bottle pp)

    Some hotels wont do corkage

Then outside of that (in order of cost)
    Suits and dresses
    Photographer
    Flowers
    Band/DJ some will do both
    Car hire

Thats all I can think of but there are 100 other costs
