I bought a ps3 in america and im wondering whats the best way to bring it on the plane? Do i :
    1. Bring the box on has hand luggage(will definatly have a back pack also for my laptop so i might not be allowed to have 2)
    2. Put the console only into above mentioned back pack (im thinking maybe this one)
    3. Leave it in its box, put in my suitcase and stuff all around it with clothes

Im flying with B.A. if this helps.
Im sure some one else from here has done it so any advice would be great!!

Well do you have an extra case with you, if you don't, buy one. It's better putting it in the hub cause I'd imagion it would be a pain in the hole. But ask them to keep it safe and dont be chucking it about the place. It wont be smart to put in protective packing eg. Bubble-wrap, newspaper. Go easy on the bubble wrap ah... ;)

I'd put it in your luggage but don't keep the box. If you get snared by customs you can claim you brought it with you. Even if it gets tossed around a bit the worst that will happen is the hard disk will be broke but you can just buy a new laptop one for very cheap. Use your clothes like bubble wrap :) Will be bringing mine back the same way in 2 weeks.

TBH its a PS3! Order a private plane to flly it back. Wrap the plane in bubblewrap and have f-16s escorting it. Also have the flightpath covered with bubble wrap just in case...................Thats what I did:D

it fits quite nicely into to my carry on bag, but would there be problems going through security? I wouldnt have to worry about it being thrown around!

I have an extra bag so i can bring it in my suitcase no problem. Ill prob hold on to the box though, ive never heard of any one having there bags searched going through irish customs! Anyways my birthday was in july so it was bought for me as a present , and they can hardly expect me to pay tax on something i got as a present!

I like conors idea.. might look into that!

    Cheers for the replies

I bought my 360 in the US also bought a 360 carry bag with it also. Travelled with BA and carried my Laptop in my Laptop Bag and my 360 in its Xbox bag. No problems at all.

Only pain in the ass is that you have to take it out of the bag going through the scanners like you would do for the Laptop.

That bag will not draw any attention from Irish customs or let them know
that you're not paying customs duties. Be careful you're not making the
job easier for them or flaunting your tax dodge in their faces.
    :)

Whats to say that he didn't bring his PS3 with him for the holiday?

Dont carry the receipt and ditch the box, simple

You love your bubble wrap! You prob just want to pop it on the way home!!

Ba say on there website your allowed one normal carry on bag and then a laptop or a brief case on inbound flights, not the case outbound for some reason!

There's no way in hell I'd want to carry that heavy monster through an airport.

I remember when I bought mine in Dublin I had a 20 minute walk to my bus stop and the skin on my knuckles was starting to part at the seems from carrying the thing.

Eh not really I got stopped but only because I had so many bags dude asked me about the 360 told him was travelling the world with my Xbox he asked about the laptop aswell said same thing never leave home without them.

Problem is with bubble wrapping it the dudes at the bag scanners will make you remove it and send it through to be scanned. All airports have policy that ALL electrical equipment must be scanned. Again they made me take the Xbox out of the bag. Had alot of pissed of people behind me as i was taking so long :)

Padded bags as in the link I put up are class they are padded all over the shop and sit on your shoulder easy as pie.

Can the customs do anything to ye on clothes/ps3s/xboxs laptops etc if they have no receipts/labels/boxes ?

Nope. Best thing is remove all tags and make everything look worn. With electronics remove all boxes and make sure the wires still dont have the cable ties on them making them look like they have never been used before. They need to be able to prove the item is new and failing to do this they cannot charge you custom or tax on it.

hold on ... somone was stopped by irish customs!? the last time i went through customs the security gaurd looked asleep! I am i better off saying i got it as a present or brought it with me if they do ask? Because id be able to get proof that it wasnt bought by me. Wouldnt it also be possible that you traveled with the box?

They are currently going for $500 + tax (in ny city its 8.35%, if your travelling somewhere else it would be cheaper) for the 60gb console. its the same price in all the shops. Games are $60 each + tax and the six axis controller is $50 + tax. But when stock runs out of the 60gb version theres a new 80gb version with one game, i think its resistance or maybe its motorstorm for $600, it doesnt look like they'll run out soon though.

Im presuming that was in a plastic bag or maybe the box that it hurt, itll be on my back, theres no doubt its going to be heavy , but im a stocky lad... ill live!!

I hate the taught of putting the playstation in the cargo hold!! the taughts of guys tossing my suitcase doesnt appeal to me! i know it would be padded but id be absolutely raging if anything happened to it!!

on the way over i had all my electronics(camera, laptop, Ext HDD etc) in my carry on and it was a nightmare going through customs,it took me so long to unpack and pack everything!

Im still undecided but i think im going to bring it as carry on....

    Cheers for all the replies!!

If its any help, I once bought a pioneer recevier in Singapore. These are big monsters, weighed 25 kilos and the box is the size of a medium suitcase. Checked it in to Dublin via LHR in the cargo hold using the original packing. Picked it up in Dublin, chucked it on a trolley and walked right by customs.

They didn't even bat an eyelid.

Well for anyone interested, i got this home ok evey thing working fine!

I decided to bring it as carry on. i took the console out of the box , wrapped it in the soft cloth thing that it orginally came in and tapped around it. I left the top of it open so that if it did need to be taken out it wouldnt have been that big of a deal. I but the console in my laptop back pack. That bag weight an absolute ton! My laptop was in too and some other stuff! I was definatly over the weight limit for carry on and i was worried when the people in front of me got there carry on weighd! I just had it on my back for the whole time i was checking in and he didnt ask.

Security was not exactly fun! JFK has a sign up saying that full size game consoles must be put in there own tray. the security gaurd said i didnt need to take it out of the wrapping i have mentioned. I had 4 trays going through security! And it takes me ages to put the playstation back in the bag as it needs to go in first. So i was kinda holding up the queue! I put the bag in the over head locker, it was a struggle to lift it!
In heathrow same thing going trough security, except the gaurd asked me what it was, when i said it was a ps3 he asked were they any good cause he was thinking of getting one!
On the plane from heathrow to shannon there was no space in the over head bins, everyone seemed to have medium sized suitcases as there carry on!? So i squeezed it between the seats, it was such i tight fit though that when i was getting it back up i had to move it along the floor to the aisle!

Got it home safe and sound, really appreciate the advice! cheers!

johnny_addidas or any one else whos heading out soon , i bought a platinum member card for a shop called fye (fye.com). it gets you 10% off purcahses of games and movies. doesnt work with the console but wokrs with everything else. If you wanna Pm me your address ill send it on to you, its not much use to me!
