    Studio Portraits for c & c

Here are some studio portraits taken last march for c & c (the session before the group one in randalstown). There was no theme etc just portraits with a vintage/slightly retro look and feel.

Aiming to get a certain composition and mood. Thanks for checking - the full sized ones plus a few more are in the flickr.

some great photos there, really excellent. The last is my favourite but i like all of them!

The first would be nicer (for me) in square shape - I did some crop with two sheets of paper again.
The second one is amazing, like a dream portrait.
All three are very very good. I am impressed!

I think I tried a square crop of that one but cant remember why I didnt use it in the end. I think I was going for a panavision type of feel to it. There are a few to go from that session yet so I might try square crops in a few later. Thanks for checking /commenting.

It's so easy to critisize :-)
I was thinking about cropping a little more on the left. It looks like a movie poster. Really nice and trender lightning, soft filter applied. Very nice.

I watched Double Indemnity again last night and was thinking of these shots (I saw them yesterday). The lighting is absolutely fantastic - I love love love the movie icon look. Well done that man!

Hah ! I love those old 30's & 40's movies. I think that era was the height of cinematography/portrait photography - razor dof and lighting and so on.

really nice tones and sharpness in these Ger, just a few points though - the cushions in the backround on the first one are distracting they just seem to be out of balance with the emptyness on the right hand side of the frame. I think either more cushions on the right or none on the left or cropping the right will definitely add to this one. Also the models left eye seems out of position with the right so it gives her a weird look.

Ligthing on the face in the second one is nice but a little overblown on the left and the bright spot at the bottom left is overly distracting, also showing the one hand like that feels a bit cut off maybe bringing the right arm into the frame could have balanced it a bit more overall.

The last one Im not really gone on, i think the pose doesnt really do anything for the model and the highlights seem over blown. I think the shadow would have worked better if you revealed just a small bit more detail in the left eye because I am drawn to this part but there is only part of an eyelid.

Overall I think I would prefer the first one, a few small tweaks at the time could have made it excellent..
