    just been thinking.
20/20 is pretty much bash and hope cricket...there isnt much forgiveness for bowlers.
Does anyone else feel that this is just a bit too much.

lately ive just noticed that there isnt enough test match cricket. It is the true test of the sport...and as i get older i enjoy it more and more...and enjoy the shorter version of the game less and less.

I also wish that the indians would have gone for a 4 or 5 test match series against england rather than have too many one dayers.

20/20 is a fun form of the game that brings people through the turnstiles and hopefully attracts new people to the game. It has it's place in the international calendar, and we might as well have a World Cup for it while we're at it.

I agree with you that test cricket is the pinnacle, as do most players - just witness the number of players who retire from ODIs to prolong their test career (although some have done the opposite). The cricket is usually of a higher standard and the strategy & tactics involved in test cricket are what makes it an absorbing spectacle.

India as a nation, however, has a fascination with ODI cricket, and it's this form of the game that brings in the big bucks for the BCCI. Therefore they will always look to have more ODIs and less tests.

Yeah it was India's choice to have so many one dayers. I'd much rather have seen another test match and maybe just 3 one dayers. 5 is definitely enough for a one day series, 7 is pushing it.

I'm really looking forward to the 20/20 world cup. It's going to be great entertainment and good for drawing new fans to the sport. Yes I wouldn't take the outcome too seriously and test match cricket is really what matters but there's no harm in having some fun in a tournament like this.

The truth is that 20/20 attracts huge TV audiences and brings thousands through the gates and as long as it does that it'll be lucrative for the ICC to hold these kind of events.

And thats what it seems to be about these days. So many matches are played, particularly limited overs games, because they generate so much revenue for the boards and ICC.

My issue with the Twenty20 World Cup is, that it will kill off the concept for which it was created. To inject life into the first-class game.

I remember when it was launched, it was done so to help get people into the county grounds around England. Its been a roaring success.

But, the national boards have gotten greedy, and we now have it being played by international teams, I feel that the genuine purpose, to help county teams to decent gate revenue, to shore up a TV-money-dependent system, will falter.

And, as a by-product of that, not many international players will have played Twenty20, so this tournament might be another ICC flop.

But it will work. It should bring in more people into the game.

I agree that the advent of twenty20 could spell the end for the more 'traditional' test matches. With the world cup coming up in a few weeks, there will be a glut of very quick games. The danger is that people will expect that every game will be over within a couple of hours. Once the tournament is over, the average non-cricket fan will soon be lost once the tournament is over.

Having said that, I can't wait until it all starts.

ive appreciated one day matches since my first close close [tight] ODI, many to mention here but nothing gets you on the edge of your site like a tight ODI, anything can change, eg: southafrica vs australia semi finals 1999.

pakistani line up is completley changed, the A list is filled with all new players, wonder if thats the line up for 20 20 ?

is any tv channel broadcastings this bbc/ch4 ? skysports?

Sky Sports, aye. No word of highlights on any other channels, and, as it starts next week, this won't happen now.
