Is cheating THAT common?

For various reasons theres been a lot of discussions with friends lately about cheating on gfs/bfs. & no matter who the conversation is with everyone has or knows someone who has either:
    a) been cheated on
    b) cheated
    c) was the person cheated with
    d) has been came on to by someone with a bf/gf
And in some cases all of the above..

Personally ive always thought it was one of the worst things you could do to someone, and wouldnt do it even to my worst enemy, nevermind someone i claimed to love. But it seems to be EVERYWHERE.

Im just wondering how boardsies see it? Is it really that common an occurence?

& to anyone that HAS cheated: why? boredom? attention?

Lol at boardsies. This is my word on this topic. If you marry someone and you cheat on them, then you go to hell. Have some dignity and respect for the other person and tell them 'Ok this is not working, I'm sorry''

I wouldn't say that cheating is common, per se.

I do think that, over the course of a lifetime, many good people have periods where they may engage in unfaithful behaviour.

You obviously have strong views on the subject.

But why don't you try it? Who knows, it might be fun?

    Cheating involves have a partner.
I'll get back to you in a couple of years on that one.

    /puts on wierd science.

I think its fairly common, well it seems to be in my social circles anyway. I only cheated once (drunken shag, and had only been with my partner a short time) but have been with a few women that were in relationships. Also had a one nighter with 2 married women. Some people might do it for bordom/attention as you said, but alot of the time they are drunk and just want a ride!

I wouldnt try it out of respect for the person i am with (regardless of love, which would be my number 1 reason not to).

I COULDNT try it, even if i wanted to, cause id feel too guilty.

The thought that I might end up married to a woman like that scares the sh1te out of me.

Haven't cheated or been cheated on and I hope it stays that way.

You need to become more comfortable with your guilt.

For me, the sin is WANTING to do it. Do you want to do it, Sar84? Even a little bit?

Smithy, you have enough married women etc to keep your grubby hands busy for a while.

OP, next time, maybe you should get your boyfriend before he gets you.

I'm a male in my 20's, with a long term partner. She gets so much male attention it makes me dizzy. Keeps me on my best, most attentive behaviour that I think maybe she'd waltz (okay, stumble) off into the sunset with some stud* some day. Keep your undying fidelity and loyalty to yourself and only let your boyfriend see the ball-breaking side of you and he might respect you more.

*I mean an even bigger stud than me.

She still seems to inspire great emotion in you.

I didn't know they were married till after the deed was done.

That wouldnt be a great attitude to have either. I EXPECT fidelity & loyalty in a partner and its hardly much to ask. It was always clear that cheating would end things, for both of us, so maybe he was just looking for an easy way out. either way, this isnt PI so enough about me & that a**hole :)

My first girlfriend cheated on me too. She was in the States. She was right though, I spent the whole summer trying to cheat on her. But she was better than me at it.

where did this whole monogomy thing come from anyway? i bet cavemen could have an many girlfriends as they want!! plus, in them countries with harems, it seems to be fine. where did this idea come from? even hugh hefner has a loada ladies on the go, and he lives in the western world!! so therefore, by definition of cheating, Hugh is cheating, but his other women dont mind. is it jsut a differnt mindset of some ppl to be affected by this? our upbrginin? the CHURCH?!?!?!!!one!!!

People under 30: Oh no, I would never cheat.

Sorry to hear it but at least you have enough self respect to drop him.
The amount of girls I know or know of through others who stay with guys who've cheated on them... truely baffling to me.
If I was cheated on or somehow cheated on my partner then I'd call it quits for the simple fact that I just don't think it was meant to be if either of us isn't completely committed to the relationship.
It's no wonder most ex-partners seem to tend to end up loathing one another.

Yeah, but they didn't also have Syphilis, HIV and probably half the other STDs to worry about. I would also guess that fathering the child of another man would kinda put you on the out back then too, since the whole aim of the game is to produce offspring.

Not really. We didnt just magically get pleasure from sex in the 60's!

Did you think of telling your sister?

If you have and she has done nothing, don't expect her to get any sympathy here.

Yep, seen that happen plenty of times.
A few blokes I know have long term girlfriends and cheat whenever they get the opportunity. The thing i don't get is that they still claim to love their girlfriends/fiances/partners! wtf?
Personally, I've done it at the start of a relationship (when it's not "official") but if I wanted to go out and score other people, I wouldn't be going out with someone...which is why I'm single :D

Some of my friends are serial cheaters and would be with married/unavailable men. In fact some night they have purposely went out to pull an unattached guy ???
I've been a serial cheater in the past and so has my boyfriend (and I have had the experience of each of the situation the OP listed)
I trust him now and I hope he would never and also I wouldn't either but then again some would agree what goes around comes around regarding cheating

To be honest some people only define cheating as cheating if they are caught.

I don't expect any sympathy just replying to a thread:confused: if it were my hubby he would have the serial number of the frying pan implanted in his forehead for the rest of his life, after frying his balls on it.;)

I have been cheated on and it hurt like anything. We managed to work through it but I must admit I made his life hell for a few years afterwards which I now regret. Cheating is wrong no matter how it happens. I still feel guilty for treating him so badly in the past but it did not excuse his cheating, he should have just left if he wanted to date someone else.

    everyone is doing it

my ex cheated on me with his hairy chinless secretary, i mean hello?

and i have had two of my friends husbands come on to me so much that i have had to leave parties/dinners early and go home.

last november, an old flame came over from england for the weekend, he had a girlfriend but my god the sex was so good and it was so worth it. i know he had a bit of a guilt trip going back home but that was his problem not mine.

half of my office are having affairs with each other, and they think no one knows

My sister is married and goes on the pull every Saturday night. And I'm pretty sure her husband is shagging other women too.

My other sister was cheating on her boyfriend before she dumped him and moved in with the guy she was cheating with.

I had a brief.. um... encounter with a man whom I later realised was married so I broke it off with him but I'm sure he's found more fresh p*ssy by now.

    So much infidelity.

I thought that was just my office ! But yeah I think its a fairly common thing to be honest. Being so used to it you become immune and assume arounf 50% of people are.

I am not cheating by the way.
