I rang Croke Park ticket office, and the general office. They both say theres none going on general sale, only to County boards and clubs!

I don't think any went on general sale for Dub Vs Mayo last year either.
Kind of expected to be honest.

Corporate interest is going to be huge, and so is club demand from both counties. They won't even need to put them on general release.

    You mean all 4 counties?
Laois V Derry in the Minor semi is supposed to be on that day too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,350 ✭✭✭Het-Field

That sucks. It screws the general fan who has no corporae contacts or club contacts from getting a ticket.

However, I dont believe ticketmaster would have advertised, and have a link at all to the semi if there were no general sale tickets

They never advertised it. The link was there long before either Dublin or Kerry got throught their respective quarter finals but the fact that demand is high enough within GAA circles mean that Ticketmaster wont get an allocation. They usually only sell on surplus tickets or those deemed extra to clubs demands but since every club in the counties participating will want as many as they can get, the GAA will cut out the middleman (Ticketmaster) and maximise profits. The other game is still available through Ticketmaster since demand is not as high. Had Dublin lost to Derry, I'd imagine tickets for the Kerry V Derry semi would also be on Ticketmaster for this reason.

I heard today from my boss who is on the Connaught Council that the minor could be getting changed as well, Galway are trying to get it changed so they play kerry that day instead of Laois v Derry.

That would suit Laois and Derry fans nicely and not have to compete for tickets with the Dubs. I cant understand why Galway would want that though? Surely there will be less Kerry support if it remains as is and the Galway contingent will be well represented? It would suit Kerry alright though, only one day out, but then again, a lot of them only turn up for the last match of the year.

Called ticketmaster and I'd say you're right - the girl said there was no indication in their system as to when tickets were/might become available.

So they have no concrete allocation and *may* sell off the dreggs if there are any left.

    Which there won't be!

My boss reckons Galway want an extra week instead of having to play this weekend, there was a meeting on about it today, so we should know tommorrow. It would help me though...at least there would be a few tickets floating about down here :D

Galway are trying to get their game against Kerry to be on with the Kerry-Dublin Senior game?
    Fair dues to them.

Yep......cant see it happening to be honest, but thats what they're trying for. I cant see Laois or Derry agreeing to play a week earlier!

Laois might agree since they played last week but didnt Derry just play yesterday? That doesnt leave much preparation time, especially since they have been told the 26th previously. Doubt it'll be changed somehow.

Just heard on the local radio here, the minor match hasnt been changed. So its Laois -v- Derry before the Dublin Kerry match

No, it simply means that club members get the tickets. You want a ticket, go and join a club. You don't even have to play if you don't want to. Just join the club.

I was at the game on Saturday, had a spare Hill ticket, couldn't give it away. I was even offered tickets by two gards.

Fair enough a big day out. Probably going to be the third highest interest in the match for the whole year (2 AI finals ahead of it). It means more of the real fans and probably less scumbags too. Even Kerry fans might be interested in this one (yes I know Kerry fans at a semi-final shocking) so it's only fair that club members and players in the two counties get first offer - if their is any left over then they will be put on general sale

Id imagine there will be too. Id doubt clubs will get their full requests as most people these days request more than they need. I usually request 2 tickets for every 1 that i need and have never had any to spare. Usually its look for 6, get 3 so its the best way. If they do get their full allocations, there will be hundreds in the pubs beforehand.

I think this is the way it should be. Clubs should always be allocated the tickets they want before they go on General Sale. Three times already this Championship my club has been left short of tickets and people have missed out.

I have no problem with tickets going on general sale if there are any left after the clubs have sent in their allocation.

As Lemlin said, you don't have to play for you're local GAA club, just join as a member and you will get yourself tickets.

Unfortunately it is not as simple as that. A club only gets a limited amount of tickets and that amount is less than their membership or even the amount of members that want to go. So being a member is far from being guaranteed a ticket.

Thats true except for the final when it can be a bit of a lottery (literally)

This is how tickets were distributed for the All-Ireland Final last year.

    Overall Capacity (Planning Permission) 82,300

    Tickets not available for circulation
Long Term (On Cusack Stand) 4,143
    Premium and Box Tickets 10,528
    Miscellaneous 141
    Thats a Total of 14,812

    Available for General Circulation 67,488
    County Allocations 24,422
    Competing County Allocations 26,028
Extra Allocations for Competing Counties 5,777
    Ard-Chomhairle 786
    Former Presidents 641
    Provincial Councils 385
    Handball 162
    Camogie 120
    Ladies Football 140
    Overseas 520
    Schools and Educational Bodies 2,518
    Public Representatives 132
    Staff and Subcommittees 1,466
    Sponsors 679
    Ard-Stiúrthóir 326
    Media 245
Minor Teams (On the Day of Game) 70
    Jubilee Teams + CLG/INTO 313
    Player’s Tickets (Competing Counties) 540
    Inter-County Panels 1,920
    Páirc an Chrócaigh Teoranta 198
    Match Officials 58
    National Referees Panel 42
    Thats a Total of 67,488

I reckon if Dublin get to the All-Ireland Final; the Dublin County Board will get about 16,000 tickets. My club in Galway will get about 6. Out of the 6; the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer will get one each. The other 3 will normally go into a draw for all Paid Up Club Members who want a ticket. The Members including the 3 Officers must use the ticket for themselves. They are not allowed to give it away.

This is true. Then there are social members versus full members in some clubs.

I can tell you the story of one of the stewards in PP who was doing the draw for tickets in his club back in 2002. One lads name was pulled out, chucked back in again.

Also, bear in mind the miserly allocations Brigid's got last year for the semi, also Thomas Davis - clubs with thousands of members only got hundreds of tickets.

This is an all-ireland series match. There'll be even tickets sent down here ffs. Most of these get returned, as flukey says, know you know why, so dont abandon all hope just yet.

Last year the Competing Counties got 31805 Tickets. They were divided between the Counties competing in the Minor and Senior
    Mayo
    Kerry - Senior and Minor
    Roscommon

I reckon Dublin will swing a maximum of 16,000 tickets.

True that being a member doesnt at all guarentee you a ticket, especially for finals/semi finals. The Dublin Meath replay is the only one so far where my club didnt even get enough to cover the amount of people looking for tickets, much less people requesting 2 or 3 tickets. For that they had a draw and luckily we had 3 names in the hat and all 3 came out. Was very lucky. I personally think its a farce that ticketmaster get them before clubs. It should be obvious that club members, who are pumping money into the GAA year after year should get preferance after only one group and thats PP pass holders. As it stands, I never bother going to ticketmaster to get tickets so if it turned out that i didnt get one from my club, i would have missed my oppertunity to get some there also and could be very hard pushed to find one.

Ah right, sorry. I see it now. Just a bit confused by the list at first :)

Nalced, dont you be worryin about AI finals just yet! We've a semi to get through first!!!

Ah, im not One Cold Hand, just saw his list and was too curious on how it broke down so had to ask :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,391 ✭✭✭One Cold Hand

    Ah sure I'm only messing!
Will be interesting to see how many tickets I get for the Kerry game. Put myself down for 4 but only need 2!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Nalced_irl

Same here, need 3 but put down for 6. Either way, if i only get 3, happy days. If i get 6, there will be no shortage of people looking for them. Put down for Hill/Nally so id doubt ill be getting 6 tho. Actually, first time ive seen the list with the Hill and the Nally combined. Usually they are seperate. Hope i get Hill but sure, its not exactly a Chuck Norris job to get over into the Hill.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,391 ✭✭✭One Cold Hand

Well I always put down for the hill but I've gotten the Nally a few times. No difference really. And if you wanna hop over just go in about half an hour early when all the stewards are sitting around picking their ar$e!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Nalced_irl

Well, last time i went to the Nally i was happy enough to stay there, but a lad i was with wanted to meet the rest in the Hill. You dont even need to go in early, just go down beneath the terrace where you come in and walk over a waist high barrier. Never any stewards there and they dont really care anyway id say....well, until too many do it and there is another Hillsborough of course. Which is why i prefer not to do that kind of thing.

In my experience being a member of a club will practically gurantee you a ticket for all games up to Final. Every member of clubs i know have been sorted so far, sure they might not get them in first allocation but other club members will always help you out as they know you are genuine GAA supporter and not from the summer only in Croke Park brigade.
I will never understand people who seem to develop such passion for GAA for 3 months of the year but then go back to watching the overhyped bore fest that is the Premier league instead of going down to their local club to see the same top class players from Feb to Nov or even to go to PP for league games.

That is true this year Flukey but it wasn't the case last year, although obviously a club will never get a ticket for every member. My club had extra tickets for every game last year and couldn't get rid of them all so they were sent to other clubs that wanted the extra ones. This year, purely because so many tickets are going on general sale, that hasn't been the case.

The usual system for my club is you put your name down for the first Championship game of the season and then you will get a ticket for the remainder of the Championship. If you didn't put your name down for the first game or you miss a game then you will be less likely to get a ticket for the next game. It's a fair system to give the members who go to every game a ticket.

Next time that Martin Breheny or any other lads urge on the GAA on their efforts to stamp out ticket touting they may be in a position to help.

For example, by showing the GAA the adverts for Needaticket on the Indo website.
