I was going to buy it in Peats but they don't have it in stock and Creative don't seem to sell it online. I'd prefer to buy it in a shop. Has anyone seen in anywhere (south dublin or city centre)

I'm in similar situation but I'm looking for a 30GB model. I rang Peats and Arnotts and then Creative and have been told that the Vision M model has been discontinued. No word on a new model.
I looked in Blanch on Saturday and couldn't find one in Dixons, 3G store, Currys or the like.

the 30GB is on the creative website and argos if that helps. i may have found a 60gb. i'll post back if i get it but if they are saying they can't get it i'll assume it's out of stock and get the 30gb. which i'm feeling annoyed about because it's only 20 euro cheaper

Hi, the 60gb ZVM is for sale on the Amazon.co.uk website for roughly 235 euro but amazon do not ship electronics to Ireland, but what you could do is have AMP3.co.uk price match it and have them ship over a ZVM60gb to you.

I'd disregard the above comment on the Creative forum as it's really
just commenting on Best Buy in the US stocking them.

Amazon UK have them in stock but will not ship to Ireland.
My usual source, amp3.co.uk is listing them but is currently
    out of stock.

I haven't read anything about Creative discontinuing the 60gb Zen M,
I've a feeling the current out of stock status on several sites is due
to the fact they have sold out of the older and slightly wider 60gb model
and have not received the newer and slimmer 60Gb model in just yet.

Edited to add: The Creative site for Singapore which tends to be the most up-to
-date with parts and new models is still showing the 60gb Zen M so I seriously
doubt it's end of life just yet.

really? that's weird cos i rang this morning and they had none. it's ok though cos i got the 60gb on! the last one in stock in power city and they gave me 10euro off for some reason. maybe cos it was the show one. thanks for your replies everyone.

Must be display models, I rang twice today and they have none in stock of 30GB and 60Gb and haven't had for a while. None in Peats in Blanchardstown also.

I found 2 30GB in a place in town but can't say where as I need one!!

Definately something fishy going on. Arnotts sales guys, who were very helpful BTW, said they haven't had any for a while and they only ones they get are refurbed and good ones that come in to replace broken units.

Just so you guys know, as far as retail is concerned Creative are doing away with the Vision M. Part of my job in Peats is to do the purchasing for the computer/tech end of the shops. One of my accounts is Creative and there are no Vision M's available from Creative for ordering, either in 30GB or 60GB. There was a small amount there a month or so ago of 60GB models, but that's dried up.
As far as I'm aware they are doing this to make way for flash based players. My boss is having a meeting with them tomorrow, nothing special, just routine, but I'm sure we'll find out more. I'll let you know what comes out of it.

I noticed a couple of articles on line this morning mentioning rumours
of Creative announcing a replacement for the Zen M. Speculation that
it'll be wi-fi compatible (may cause issues with battery life) and allow
streaming of internet radio via a wifi network. Also speculation that
they'll increase the screen resolution. No details on whether it'll be
    flash or hard-drive based.

All rumours at this stage, but as Creative didnt announce any new players
at this years CES we are overdue some new players. Seems they are
following the market trend to keep all info hush-hush and not announce
any details until right before launch.

Well what I've heard this morning is that the new players will be flash based for sure, initially in 4GB and 8GB offerings and that they'll eventually bring out a 16GB unit, though that's a bit away.
What I didn't like was that they'll look something like the Zen V's. These are unsubstantiated at the moment however.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,039 ✭✭✭✭Kintarō Hattori

Right, Creative are just after leaving and I've plumbed my boss for the details.

The new model will be simply be called 'Zen'
It's going to launch in 4GB and 8GB versions.
Two weeks after it launches sometime in September, the 16GB will become available.
We didn't get to see any pictures but seemingly it'll be along the lines of the Cowon D2 and the iRiver Clix in terms of design.

Thats quite a step down in capacity compared to the Vision M as I liked playing videos and films with it.
Its seems Creative have abandoned the high capacity market to Ipod Video which is a shame and going to Nano marketshare.

It is a massive step down alright, but I don't think they are abandoning the high capacity market. In the last year or so we've seen the introduction of higher capacity (8GB) players by all the manufacturers. Even Sony have gotten in on the act! Everyone is going flash because there's less to go wrong, better battery life, quicker operation etc.
Creative in comparison to other major players have a MASSIVE return's rate on their hard drive based players and certainly from an economics point of view, it makes sense for them and everyone else to go flash as it has many advantages, one of which should be better reliability.

There are already 32GB solid state drives available and it's only a matter of time before we have 30GB/60GB flash based MP3 players. Who knows when Apple eventually bring out the 6th Gen iPod it might be flash only!

Just checked when I was there earlier and there are 30+ 60GB Vision M's in Parnell Street. I knew my eyes weren't deceiving me!

eo980 - if there is a massive returns rate, should i expect problems with mine? i had a little trouble installing it, but the player itself was fine and everything is ok now. it doesn't seem like it would have many problems. is there anything i should look out for? thanks

    Hey Man,

They have large returns in relation to other companies, it's not that every player will develop faults. There's nothing to look out for exactly, if it breaks, most likely it'll be unannounced unless it's a HDD problem. As with all hard drived based players just keep an occasional ear open to the noise the player is making when it's accessing information. If you hear any sort of clicking noise then nasty times might be just up the road.

    Yes I did. They had 2 30GB and 1 60GB left.

Info on the 16 GB Zen V Plus on anythingbutipod.

There is plenty of speculation of a Zen M replacement with wifi support
and touchscreen but still nothing concrete.

16 or 32 GB is just not enough for me, I'm hoping for an 80GB+ Zen
    replacement.

Creative never mentioned any of those features to us and in fairness with ALL of their MP3 players they've never been innovators. They've tended to follow what everyone else has done.

I forgot to add that the 'Zen' will have an SD card slot, much like the Cowon D2......................... see above! :p

excellent, at least they did one thing right! I mentioned what you told us over at epiZENter.net and some people are not overly happy

Have you got a link to the thread? I had a look but didn't find it. I can imagine people not being happy, but looking ahead flash can only be better for everyone.

no it was in the chatbox, and it was more the fact that the new zen would be low capacity flash, the people replying were hoping for high capcity HDD, but they're in the minority for sure.

Flash is indeed the future, but we recently carried out a poll at DAPreview.net : http://www.dapreview.net/e107_plugins/poll/oldpolls.php?282

The results were very tight with flash pipping it over all, but only just. Give it a year or two and HDD DAP's will be a thing of the past.

I am not too interested in the new zen tbh, I'm quite content with my Cowon D2, even at a piffly 4gb internal capacity, but this new Samsung P2 is really hot looking: http://www.dapreview.net/comment.php?comment.news.4055

It's very nearly tempting me, but Samsung DAP's are typically over priced over here.

for those that are interested theres cheap refurbs of the Zen Vision 30GB on the creative site. I've seen the new slim 60GB in xtravision. O2 also seems to have Zens not sure what size they are.

I can't decide myself which one to get. 60GB is a bit pricey. I think you'd need the extra warranty too.
