Vista OEM Install lost DVD

    Hi,

Bought OEM version of vista Ultimate when I bought all the components for my HTPC off of komplett. Installed it a couple of months ago, all was well. Something has gone wrong and now Media Centre crashes on opening although Vista itself works fine.

I am quite happy to do a re-install but have lost the Vista DVD. I have 2 kids and after extensive searching it can't be found, but with these 2 it could be anywhere :)

I have my License Key sticker stuck inside the case, so if I had another copy of the DVD I could re-install no bother.

    1. Are any uncracked legit versions available for download?
    2. My main rig runs Home Premium, I was wondering if I can use that for a vista ultimate install, seen some upgrade options in my welcome centre and was kinda wondering if all DVD Versions had the same on them and the license key determined what was activated.

    3. Any other ideas?

    Tnx,

    Inqui

Don't all Vista DVDs contain all versions of Vista and its the serial key that does the unlocking?

(FYI I wouldn't ask for links or cracked copies here unless you're lookin for a banning)

no legit copies of dos/windows for download , ( only ever trial versions and never for desktop OS once it's been released )

    2. no you can only install what your license allows.

    3. no point in borrowing a HP or dell branded Vista disk as they will only install on their own brand, so if you had to borrow one it would have to be a non-branded OEM.

I have a Vista license, from what I gather there is a distinct possibility if I use the Home Premium disk and enter my Vista Ultimate License it will all work fine.

I have 2 PC's at home hence the 2 OEM DVD's (one of which is awol) and the 2 licenses. Both copies Ultimate and Home Premium (both OEM) were bought off Komplett when I bought the components to build the PC's.

I can confirm all vista discs contain all versions of vista, the one you end up with on the pc depends on the key you use to install.
