So Joss Whedon has confirmed a deal is close to being inked for a 90 minute ''Ripper'' special on the BBC. It will focus on Anthony Heads 'Rupert
    'Ripper'' Giles' character.

I for one am delighted at this news-new Buffy!
Hopefully it will follow in the footsteps of Battlestar Galactica, and this special will be a backdoor pilot for a new series.

Let's hope the deal goes through. Does anyone remember if "Ripper" was originally supposed to be set after season 5 of Buffy? Or was it supposed to be pre-Buffy?

Orginally it was suppposed to be pre-Buffy, but then i think Tom ''Andrew'' Lenk came on board, so i dont know how they would have worked it as pre with him in it.......

Hopfully James Marsters plays some part-its possible as he will be in England next Year touring and making a guest apperence on Doctor Who

Ah, Lenky's in it. This news just gets better and better. Speaking of Tom Lenk. Did anyone else notice him in 'Transformers'? He was one of the computer technicians but dissappeared about a 3rd of the way into the film.

Was he one of the 3 young recruits?

Yes. When they first came into the film he seemed to have a bigger role than the Aussie chick, but then he disappears and she becomes one of the main characters.

correct me if I'm wrong but did tom Lenk's character not become a watcher of sorts...at least he appeared to in an episode of angel after the buffy series had ended....that sound right to people. So whereas the title suggests giles in his younger days when he was 'ripper', it could actually be post buffy series 7 where there are hundreds of slayers who need watchers, where giles and lenk come in.

If it was post season 7 it would also mean they would have to deal with what happened to angel et al..

Yes, he did appear in Angel as a "sort-of watcher"

    I would imagine it'll be set post-Buffy S7.

it could be set in the present but consist mostly of flashback, we all want to see younger giles...

what anthony head been doing for the last few years apart from little Britain and the mediorce films and tv bits...

He was in a season 2 ep of Doctor Who and a few other beeb things, seems to have a contract with them
Dont think it will focus on much post season 7 stuff as it would get in the way of the comics

Sounds a bit too much like torchwood, imho. Of which, I was not a big fan :(

    Here's hoping though...

I doubt it. Whedon is a damn sight too crafty to fall into the RTD trap of thinking that shagging every one/gender/monster you meet and a couple of naughty words make for an "adult" program.
