I was looking at the Samsung 26" LCD-TV LE26S81B for €561 delivered. Can anybody recommend anything better?

Probably one of the best on the market for the price. Unless you could find some obscure make for a few euro cheaper. Probably not worth the hassle though.

Sony Bravia engined tvs are a little overhyped & overpriced.
LG make a good variant, but having bought a samsung myself, i definitely don't regret it.

Although if it you have space would you not consider a 32"? For about 100 euro extra.... a bit more for the money.

...and a lot of them use Samsung panels anyway.

Yeh I was looking at the LG 26LC2R LCD Television but I prefer the look of the Samsung and it has HDMI x2 rather than only one which the LG has. Tbh I'm buying it as a present for my sister and her boyf so I wasn't really looking to go much more than €500 but don't mind plumping the extra for that Samsung. It's a small room so I think 26" should be about the right size for the room.

I'm nearly sure all Sony TV's now use Samsung panels, though Sony would probably argue that the panels are theirs too, since they bought a large stake of Samsung's LCD plant.

afaik samsung & sony both own S-LCD (the place that make their panels in Tangjeong...South Korea) so they both use the same panels, just different inner bittys :)
