Hey guys, I'm really sorry for posting another gear thread but i need some advice. I'm in the market for my first digital slr, and have been looking at the canon 350d. My brother has a canon 400d which i've used and liked, however it's a bit too expensive for my budget of around €500 preferably less. I was wondering if the canon 350d is worth buying or is it too outdated? I would like to stay with canon so we can exchange lenses.
I have been looking at this seller on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.ie/NEW-CANON-Rebel-XT-EOS-350D-SLR-CAMERA-LENS-4GB-CF_W0QQitemZ180148169394QQihZ008QQcategoryZ31388QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
    as opposed to pixmania.
Thanks a lot guys, i know you're probably sick of all of us newbies:o
    Alan

Pretty good feedback score.. but the ad is all over the place.. 4Gb in the title.. 6Gb in the photo and 8Gb in the description..

I hope the 350D isn't outdated.. yet.. :( it's a good body for the likes of me.. mostly point and shoot and developement of photo skills.. I'd give it the thumbs up as a starter camera.. and any accessories should be compatible with other Canon upgrades..

I have a 350D for the last two years and am very happy with my choice. So much so that I have more or less stopped using my Canon film slr because with having to get negatives scanned the end quality is not equal to the 350 results.

I'm sure that I would be just as happy with a Pentax, Olympus, Fuji or Nikon either.

Best of luck in your choice of camera.

I've seen a few members of the forum on here who have bought stuff from this seller. I have the Canon 400D and it is really a great camera. The only word of caution I would sound is that although the listing indicates that the item location is in the UK the seller is registered in USA. If the camera comes from USA you may well have import tax and duty problems which will drive up the price to you. Also you should be aware that the badging on the camera "Rebel XT" is, as far as I know, only found on American models. In Europe this would be known only as a Canon 350D

Camera is known as Canon EOS 350D in Europe and Canon Digital Rebel XT in USA, it also goes by a third name in Japan.
At the least its a US model being shipped from UK, at the most its US model being shipped from USA.

Another Canon 350d user here. Got it at the start of the year and haven't looked back. An excellent camera that can capture some beautiful shots. Definately would recommend it, the 400D only has a few enhancements like the sensor cleaning facility which is supposed to be next to useless and a larger view screen. But the 400D is also a smaller body which for some one with large hands like me would not be a good thing.

The 400 and the 350 are pretty much identical, size wise, I thought? If you can get your hands on a 350 for cheap enough you won't be missing out on anything, it's an excellent camera. It's actually quite handy to have the separate lcd display as well, even though the screen isn't as big.

I think there were some doubts in another thread about that ebay seller, may be worth doing a quick search on boards or even a google. Looks like digital rev still have some - I think they've been bought from by people here, you just have to watch out for the import as usual from hk.

7dayshop have some as well, slow delivery but I have never had issues with them.

    http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_1&products_id=102549

    Would definately order a 350D with a nifty 50 as well. Canon 50mm f1.8.

    Hey guys,
Thanks a lot for your replies, i've been looking at the feedback for the seller and have noticed almost all complaints are to do with the refurb products, not the New ones, i'm very tempted with the 6gb ( 2+4 cards) and that price, and it clearly says new and not refurb. I might go for it...decisions decisions decisions.
    Cheers
    Alan,
    Edit:i'm not so sure now...

i know i'm probably going off my own topic but anyway. I emailed emilyandlily about warranty on the camera and it comes with a one year American warranty and a one year seller warranty. The mail specifically says that they will cover any issues within the year. Do i have any ground to stand on if they go against their word? will that email stand as a contract on their part?
    CHeers,
    Alan,
Thanks for all your help guys
