I am changing my name after over 7 months of marriage, what do I need to get changed and how. Also, if I decide to keep my single name for some things is that OK? Thanks.

    Hi CathyMoran,

Just did this myself. There's a lot of work involved!

First apply for your marriage certificate. Then change your name on each of the following:
    Passport
    Driver's license
Utility bills (Bord Gais, ESB, etc.)
    Phone bills
    Insurance policies
    Bank accounts
    Credit Cards

Some of these I was just able to phone up and make the change then and there. Other companies insisted on getting confirmation of the change in writing, so I had to write to them and send them copies of the marriage certificate.

I also changed my name at work, but you may not want to do this (lots of people don't). Had to fill out some forms for HR and contact the IT department to get my user account updated.

Oh, and change your surname on your personal email accounts as well...that was the first thing I did - took a lot of people by surprise. :)

Can't think of anything else. But I'm sure there was more because it seemed to take ages! My plan now is just to keep an eye on what post arrives in my maiden name in case I've missed anything, and I'll change those things as they arrive.

    Good luck with it!
