Bad to worse for WWE

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that current WWE United States Champion MVP has been diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, which is an abnormal accessory pathway in his heart discovered during a physical.

According to the report, it can cause an abnormal heart rhythm and increase the risk of a heart attack. WWE is using this diagnosis to tout the company wellness policy. The company held a routine cardiovascular test in San Jose, which is a twice a year policy of running on a treadmill and then taking an EKG to check the heart valves.

During MVP's test, they dected an abnormal pattern and he underwent treatment this past Monday explaining why he hasn't wrestled recently. More tests are scheduled to be taken next week to see if it was a success. WWE has an article up on its website about this situation featuring quotes with cardiologist Dr. Fred Feuerbach that you can view at this link.

MVP has really impressed me recently and it will be a real shame if his career is halted early. It sounds a bit like the condition Kanu has. All the best to MVP.

Terrible time for him to find it because of the publicity surrounding the WWE's treatment of wrestlers. A year ago I'd say they'd let him continue at his own risk but now I just can't see him being let in a ring

I've read a bit about this syndrome before, it's very treatable and it's very rare that it will affect someone who has it in the first place. Hopefully MVP will be ok anyway

yes, however those who have this problem are at greater risk if they undertake excessive physical activity, because they have a higher risk of a fatal arrhythmia. So in the current climate i think WWE won't want to take that risk.

Really hope MVP is ok. He is the only reason I watch Smackdown.

MVP had treatment for it on Monday though, a look at Wikipedia says that the recurrence rate of WPW syndrome is less than 5% after that. So if he is cured then he wouldn't be at any more risk than a normal person

EDIT: The Wrestling Observer says today that MVP is scheduled to face Matt Hardy in a boxing match on Monday for the SNME taping. If that's just a recent plan then it looks like he's good to go
