Horse-riding in Dublin area

    Hey all,
Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, but I had trouble finding a section to 'fit' my topic!

Basically, I'm trying to get back into regular horse-riding and would like to find a good yard near Dublin.
I exercised ponies for other kids in my area who went to boarding school years ago, and competed a lot in the pony club and for my school and university. Then I got sick and had to give up for a few years. However, at 26 I'm now fully better and had a few lessons at a yard near my parents in Kildare and have been out trekking etc over the summer, but really want to find a yard where I can develop my skills again!

I'm looking for a professional yard, where I can have some lessons with a view to it leading towards some competing again. I'm aiming to buy a horse in the next few years, once I'm earning (studying at present so not an option!) but would love to be involved in a yard again, where I could meet people who may be short on time and looking for someone to share/loan their horse a bit down the line.

Does anyone know of a decent yard close to Dublin? I'm located in Harolds Cross but I drive, so wouldn't mind travelling within reason.
Unfortunately my old yard in Kildare has closed down, and the one I had a few lessons in to see that my health could handle the exertion deals primarily with kids. I'd ideally like a yard with adult group lessons.

If anyone has any input, I'd really appreciate it!

    Many thanks,
    Marianne.

Thornton park is a great riding school outside Swords Co. Dublin. I can highly recommend them, the staff are friendly and they have a great variety of horses.

you can try asking in the sports forum as well.
A few of us have been campaigning for an equestrian forum for ages... Details in my sig, and add your support if interested.

@OP I think an excellent way to get back into it, might be to do the BHS stage exams. Brennanstown is supposed to be a very good riding school.

I'm in same boat as you btw... still studying and cant wait to get some lessons to get back into it. Theres a pic of my mare in the 'sports' forum

    Thanks guys!!!
Checked out Thornton Park's website, looks a good spot although Swords might be a bit of a trek for me, across town in bad traffic would be a nightmare... I'll check it out though, if I don't find anywhere closer to home! Thinking of trying Carrickmines first...Or I hear there's a place in Sandyford either.

Fits-thanks for that, I added my support!
Where in the sports forum are the pics of your mare? Is it in the horse-racing forum?

There is the Paddocks out past Sandyford, good for trekking not too sure about serious lessons (booked a private ages ago which turned into a group without telling me).

You may be thinking of Brooklodge, it used to be a riding school now it is just a livery yard.

    Thanks Dr.!!

It was the Paddocks I was thinking of...that doesn't sound very promising, but I might give them a go and see. Purely because they're probably the closest yard to where I'm living at the moment!
