I think you can get one through NTL for 40 or 50 euro.

I wouldn't recommend that one. I have it and it makes a woeful highpitch screeching noise so I have it covered up.

Netgear keep giving me the run around and NTL (who gave it to me free with my 6MB connection) won't replace it either.

In conclusion: Netgear suck. NTL suck.

    The end.

Just tell them it doesn't power on anymore and they they have to replace it
if NTL actually manage to courier one out , they probably won't collect the old one
If they do want to collect it the wrong voltage adaptor into it and should kill it quick enough or break the wire from the AC DC adaptor without breaking th sleve of the wire

To answer the original post the Dlink Di 524 ( and successor... model no?) and the booster antenna is a decent enough reliable 802.11G router with good quality and long distance coverage

I'm using the Linkysy Wireless G WRT54GS which is good but the range is dodgy. Today I ordered a Linksys WRE54G Wireless Range Expander. €80.80 including VATon DABS.ie €54.75 for the router on DABS again. http://www.dabs.ie/productview.aspx?quicklinx=38DV So the whole system is going to cost me €135.55

I will let you know how I get on. Am with Irish Broadband.

formatman - do you mean say that to NTL? They told me before that the router wasn't their problem that it was Netgears and gave me the number for Netgear. Do you think NTL might replace it if I say its completely not working?

Lads, the girlfriend has that same netgear thing in her house,
the screeching high pitched tone is so annoying I agree with ya,
and do you's ever notice that the connection goes down ALL the time on it, when ya don't use the net for about 5-10 mins, it seems to loose connection with the router and ya always have to do the repair connection in the net working.
oh ya and the number that ntl give ya for the net gear people is in india somewere,
you will get serious pissed off with them. they make ya do every route check under the book and communication is so bad with them

I'm using the Dlink 524 (mentioned above) with NTL.
Never had any problems with it.

I heard recently that NTL still supply free wireless routers if you explain that your pc is in a different room than the connection point.
    (worth a try.....)

Or, NTL will organise to send someone out. (He'll call over at an incredibly inconvenient time but you have no choice)
He'll see the broken cable and say "Sorry, this has clearly been broken, please give me €60 for a new one."

    i tried but they don't give free **** !!
they say our responsibilty is 2 give u broadband ..where u keep ur pc is ur headache.
router becomes necessary specially when u have 2 PC (mine one pc and one laptop)
