Wow, this must be the first show jumping thread I've seen on boards.

Obviously not too many fans of the sport.

Or we don't have our own forum;)

Its a disgrace she isn't pn the team. Think she has been treated unfairly and she is ranked no. 3 or 4 in world??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,330 ✭✭✭✭Amz

I think she chose not to be on the team.

You don't have a forum because you don't show an interest in the sport. Like I said this is the first thread regarding show jumping I've seen on this forum since the Olympics.

Eh yeah we have. We started a request for one in forums. AND its not the first. So............

As for jessica. I know she chose not to but that was to do with the cian o'connor thing and the resulting fall-out.

If there were a forum dedicated to it there would be a lot more threads. Unfortunately equestrianism isnt a 'cool' sport despite the great numbers involved in Ireland.
Was listening to Jessica Kuerten on the radio this morning with that gardening fellow.... who did the UK charity showjumping thing? They've been working with underpriveleged youngsters over the last 2 1/1 months and there'll be a tv program starting in September. The youngsters are doing some sort of display directly after the Aga Khan cup today.

I agree about it being a disgrace Kuerten isnt on the team, but its all politics isnt it? I really dislike Cian O' Connor myself...

Forums like rugby and Martial arts had forums created because users proved their genuine interest by posting here. You're just taking the easy option and don't want to put the time into getting it created.

Being cool or not has nothing to do with it.

Please try and avoid anything that could be libelous about individuals involved in Irish show jumping.

I suppose the frisbee, parkour and bowling fans had to put in the same effort....

Equestrianism forum is long long over due

I was under the impression that the way to create a new forum was to start a thread asking so. I could be wrong. Didn't realise this was the place.

I don't like Cian either myself. I don't think thats libelous (sp) but fitz your right, like most horsey organisations it comes down to politics. Anyone know whos on the team??

    Yes, they did.

Not really. If it were, then we'd have one by now.

If she was in Dublin she'd definitely be on the team.

    Interestingly enough Cian O'Connor isn't.

No need for a seperate forum. Nothing to stop people posting in here and if gets too busy, then one can be arranged

Eh yeah it is overdue. And according to you this is the place to request a new forum? Have i this right. And btw isn't this forum regulated by the same rules as most other fora. IMO your contribution thus far to the thread has been of topic. Other users would have recieved warnings by now.

Back on topic. What time is it on tv? (The AGA KHAN)

Everyone loves the Aga - even people like me who usually only support sports like rugby (Union) - so now's a good time to get a forum.

Think you might want to include a linky in this thread to the forum request thread, though, to drum up support.

p.s. it's a little weak blaming 'image' for lack of forum... as you point out if sports like frisbee, darts and (ugh) Rugby League can have their own forum, then 'cool' isn't a factor. :p

(Seriously, it's user action that creates fora - don't expect the admins to just magic them into place without a few signals like this thread)

Just added a link piscic. Thanks for the advice. I love the Aga Khan. The first time i was 5. So i miss it this year. The Hunt Chase at the RDS is great craic too. Good times.

Ok, maybe that is a little weak, but I dont think theres any group of sporting people quite as universally disliked as the 'horsey crowd' with the 'toff' perceptions.

Also I can remember many forums being created with a lot less effort (such as motorhomes and campervans where I also post). This is at least the third or fourth effort to get an equestrian forum since I've joined boards.

anyone know whats happening in the aga khan? No news about it online...

just found out that RTE.ie are streaming it live. Germany on 5 faults, Ireland on 9, two riders left to jump.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,909 ✭✭✭europerson

So the Aga Khan ended up with Ireland in joint third on seventeen penalties and Germany winning with nine penalties. Ireland did well in front of the home crowd, it seems. Full results here.

It seemed like a good course, not so many clears... I thought that pole on the upside down cup was clever.... never saw that before. I wonder what height it was... anyone know?

I was there on Friday but i missed the Aga Kahn because i went to see a friend jump in the Amatures class in Simmonscourt. She had an unfortunate stop at the first fence in the 1st round of qualifiers which left her well down the order but she came 1st out of the class on day two of qualifiers and took 6th over all in the final which took place in the main arean on Sunday.

She had a pole down on the very last fence - would have taken either 1st or 2nd otherwise as there was only one other clear round, so she was a bit annoyed but had a great result all the same - AND she got to jump the same fences as the internationals do all week which was pretty cool!

Another friend of mine (who is also the person who is training my mare Mandi) owned the horse that Shane Breen rode in the Puissance on Saturday afternoon, he cleared 7ft4 but got knocked out in the last round and took joint second place so that was really exciting!

Great show unfortunatly it was spoiled a little by the rain of course
