Am I a dinosaur?

I have read several threads on this forum in the last few weeks where presumably ordinary sane people look for advice/reassurance on personal issues.
A common theme that runs through many of these includes the phrase ' I texted him/her' or similiar and usually in the context of trying to meet a boyfriend/girlfriend. The thread usually continues with 'she did not reply to my text' or something similar.
What the fe*k is going on? I am only 44. It is not so long since a guy had to walk up to a girl, look her in the eye and TALK TO HER. Within a short space of time you found out where you were going. Before the night was out (aka shifting) you would arrange to meet again.
A mobile phone is a TOOL that you use for business, emergency, chatting to friends etc. As another poster said, texting is for reminding someone to put out the garbage- NOT FOR MAKING THE FIRST TENTATIVE LINK WITH THE PERSON YOU MIGHT SPEND THE REST OF YOUR DAYS WITH.
Texting distances you from the other person to an extent. I recently got fed up with my employees texting me to tell me they were taking a sicky, I introduced a rule that I DESERVE A PHONE CALL! The incidence of Monday illnesses has dropped off considerably as a result.
So maybe I am a dinosaur, but if you want interpersonal contact use the ability to speak mother nature gave you.
