Hi i want to create a porn production company in ireland is it legal. All actors will of course be of legal age of conscent.I want to make porn and market here in ireland.distributed online and if possible by dvd and magazines if it gets big enough. Is their a law prohibiting this?if there is i think its ridiculous considering its all over the place in newsagents, and even video rental stores like xtarvision so why would porn produced in ireland be illegal?
    Thanks

If you want to distribute any films in Ireland by dvd or otherwise you will need to have the films classified by the film censor. The film censor will be unlikely to grant certs for porn films. To distribute without a cert will land you in trouble.

I once seen a review (on the blizzard of odd on rte) of a porno movie that was filmed in Ireland and produced by a company in England so it must no be illegal to film the movie but maybe producing them is???

If it is illegal do you agree that its ridciulous ,i mean i cant imagine why.The government says to them selves we will allow porn to be sold and distibuted everywhere in the country but if its irish we will ban it?its crazy

Yea was filmed in Donegal in a rented house IIRC. The company was English yea but couldv just been coincidence as it was around long before the Irish film was made, they were trying to find a niche in the market.. the whole lepreporn fiasco..

yes i heard of that but do you think the fact that they are based in the uk meant that they were not liable to any law regarding pornographic production here in ireland and i dont think that there anybody is going to get extradited from the uk to ireland to face prosecution for such a small crime.

The DPP would not consider it a small crime.

You could find youself coming a-cropper of prostitution laws too.

Not is the couple is bf & gf? The Film Censor that will have the main say in this (methinks).

How about Celebrity Irish Porn Stars (or lookalikes)?

    "Hector heeeaaaar!!"
Joe Duffy: "Uh huh. uh huh, yeah, yeah"
    Dunphy: "...ssss absolllotely wooorld class"
Pat Kenny: "OK! And tell me what we have here? It seems to be a young lady, attired in leather and chainposted to the bed. Or the leaba as they'd say up the country, chortle, chortle. "

As for the ladies? Well, all of the Corrs for starters...

    ?????????????
The dpp wouldnt consider a small crime but then why does the dpp not even consider porn in ireland not a crime at all.How does the porn for sale here not cause alarm or break any law? There are porn Dvds for rental in Xtravision why are they not just a serious a crime as a porn Dvd produced in ireland. And i t is not the same as prostitution as they people in in it are paid to act out a script in an erotica film, they are not paid by the hour for sex.Im not sying anybodys wrong about what there saying im just questioning the ethics of such prohibitation.

TBH - the market here would be so small as to not bother.
distribute it in the uk , getting a rating from the BBFC ( uk censor's office)
the muck shops here buy their dvds from the u.k. - let them deal with the problem.

i dissagree i see a market here,i was under the opinion athat ireland was a decmocracy and that peoiple should be able to choose what they watch opposed to the governmnet choosing for them, from i read here it now seems that i was wrong

i'm only giving pointers to ways around the whole censor's office thing - which would seem to be your biggest problem.

can you not register the company in the uk ??
i would think you'll be having a few interesting conversations with mr bank manager when you go looking for your business account to be set up ;)

all the porn distributors are based in the uk anyway, so even if you're filming in ireland you'll still have to submit it to the uk censor before you can get it distributed in the uk ( and by extension ireland).

The BBFC will grant certs for porn films subject to them meeting their criteria, The IFCO will not grant certs for any HC porn films.

    that was my point.
i think the legal question is answered now ??
anymore is really better suited to the business management forum ( i.e. questions about distribution)

But the legal question is not answer as i still cant any law prohibiting this so how can it be illegal if there is no recording law on this subject??

If you are actually considering setting up a porn production company in Ireland, then before you spend money on anything, talk to a solicitor who specialises in the area of publication.
