I am absolutely stunned at the delusion about Sunderland in this thread.

It's weird to see so many people predicting a Newcastle away win. It would be so typical if this produced the customary shock of the opening weekend and Bolton hammer us 3-0 or something. That said, I also feel Newcastle will win - 2-1 to the Toon :)

I've gone for the draw anyway, I think on the first day in particular the players will be running on adrenaline. Plus, Spurs didn't always set the Premiership alight last season away from the lane.

Blackburn look good for a win at Boro, their hosts are missing CBs Jonathan Woodgate, Robert Huth and Emanuel Pogatetz through injury.

I'm very surprised at how many people think Villa will get something from the game against the pool. Our record with Liverpool in awful in recent years and we haven't really got any stronger with the exception of NRC and we have no first choice keeper either. I hope those who think we will get something from the game are right.

I actually think Sunderland will get thumped by Spurs which could be a good lesson for the those young players at sunderland a win against spurs and they may get ahead of themselves or maybe thats stupid logic?

Blackburn don't generally start the season well. That said, they have been back at training earlier this season and have played two 'competitive' Intertoto games.

I think it'll end in a draw but would love to see a Rovers win.

Indeed, but Liverpool have had a shocking start to most campaigns. Furthermore Villa will be quite defensive which will spur Liverpool onto attack more. I think they are feeling the pressure more than anyone as there is so much talk about how they have to get off to a good start.
I think was is likely to happen is that Liverpool will go out really going for the win, and Villa will nick a goal at the other end, ending in a 1-1 draw. Although if Liverpool have enough in their tank they might sneak it 2-1.

Sean, you're to one making a laugh of yourself. I can't believe you actually care so much about Sunderland that you want them to lose so badly. Face it. You're bias has gone out of control. You're imagining people walking down Grafton street in red and white shirts. I work in a place where I expect to see loads of jerseys and I've seen about one Sunderland jersey in the last year. As I've said 100 times, the interest in Sunderland is because of Roy Keane. The Irish are obsessed with Roy Keane. I'm obsessed with Roy Keane. I'd love nothing more than to have one of our own go on to be an all time great football manager.

The English are obsessed with Keane too btw. He's never off the telly over there.

In case you haven't guessed. I'm fed up with LOI fans being fed up with the public interest in Sunderland overtaking the league of Ireland. Sunderland are the new Celtic to LOI fans.

I have to say I agree with SeanSouth in a way, I think a lot of people are getting carried away with Sunderalnd the squad isn't good enough to make a real impact and tbh I think Keane is getting carried away his first and only priority should be to stay up this season.

I hope Sunderland do well beacuse they have a good few Irish players and obviously Irish owners as for Keane ..... well he'll probably turn his back on them once a bigger club comes along.

I'm not talking about whether people are overrating Sunderland. I'm talking about this:
Sunderland v Tottenham, 12:45 COME ON SPURS!

Bebatov and Keane up front for Spurs. Chopra on the bench for Sunderland.

    Line ups for 12.45..

Sunderland: Gordon, Etuhu, Nosworthy, McShane, Edwards, Whitehead, Stokes, Richardson, Murphy, Yorke, Wallace. Subs: Miller, Ward, Collins, Chopra, Connolly.

Spurs: Robinson, Chimbonda, Stalteri, Kaboul, Gardner, Tainio, Jenas, Zokora, Malbranque, Keane, Berbatov. Subs: Cerny, Defoe, Huddlestone, Bent, Rocha.

I'd expected Rocha at LB with all three of our squad LBs injured, looks like Stalteri is there today. No winger, so I'm expecting Keane to do a lot of work.
