Remote Connection changed display settings

    Hey all,

I remote connected from home into a work server last week. At the time a prompt came up asking me about display settings. Can't remember the exact details but I basically said ok to the default selection and continued on.

However now when I try to login to the machine locally (i.e. at the actual server) the monitor says it can't display at the current display settings. We don't want to reboot the server as it's a bit fragile.

Is there anyway to change the settings without rebooting? i.e. thru a dos command that we can blind type into? (Use of a mouse is out obviously). We can't changes settings via remote desktop either.

Graphics card is an ATI 3D Rage IIC Pro.

No chance of just using a different monitor temporarily? Difficult on most servers i know :(

.. and yes I know its a low brow solution :p

Yea tried different monitor, but same prob. I think the settings that the card took were incorrect for the card so regardless of what monitor is connected it just won't output. Hence trying to find some way of resetting the card to standard settings.

try logging in from home again and changing the settings from there.
I'm assuming that this is a windows server?

    Yes windows server.

Like I said, it's not possible to change the display settings via remote connection.

sorry, didn'y see that. Does windows save display settings as a system wide setting or per user? If it's per user then maybe logging in as another user would work. Sorta grasping at straws though.
