This laptop goes on sale this morning in Aldi, apologies if this has already been posted. I got my Dad to go down, and there were people queing up at 8,15am.

    Intel® Pentium® Dual-core processor T2130, 1.86 GHz, 1MB L2 Cache and FSB 533MHz

    15.4" TFT WXGA Widescreen Display
1280 × 800 pixels. 16:10 widescreen cinema format for optimized DVD playback and more desktop space on screen.

    2,048MB DDR II SDRAM

    120GB Hard Disk

    Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950
128MB shared memory based on PCI-Express technology.

    8 × Multi-standard DVD/CD Burner with DVD-RAM and Dual Layer support

    Wireless LAN 802.11 b/g

    Integrated VGA webcam

I spent the weekend browsing Dixons , Pc World and the likes trying to reason with what was a better deal. The excellent thing about THIS deal, is that you get a three year warranty and if anything goes wrong, you go into any Aldi store with a receipt and they send it to Germany, and it is replaced.

    I got mine :)

Getting more or less similar specs but you are getting double the RAM. And getting Vista Business which is needed if the Laptop is to be used in College... Or you could try to ring up and get them to put on Vista Home premium and it will drop the price by about 30 ex vat.

    comparisons of Vista OS versions.
Peewee's one is vista home Premium, jmccrohan's is vista business.

I'm sure you can get around some of the feature differences with 3rd aprty software though.

both have 2gb ram, is the double ram an internet offer from Dell ?

Dell Vostros are unbeatable at the moment. For 800 you can get a gaming laptop thats about 3x as powerful as the Aldi one (though obviously for the average day to day task it'd be the exact same) and the closest spec from other brands like Acer on laptopsdirect is about 1,200....

Seems alright I suppose - Dell seem to be wiping the floor with EVERYONE at the moment. The only way it beats DELL is that is has a 3 year no quibble warranty which is pretty amazing when you think most laptops start to crap out after 2 years or so. Might be worth buying just for that alone. Get a new one in 2 years when the V key stops working and the pointing device starts to act up.

What is the most you want to spend and I'll have a gander over on dell for ya.
And what is this laptop goin to be used for? Is it work, College, Home us ? HavoK said it: The way to go at the moment is with the Vostros... They are indentical to the insprions (only difference is colour which looks better IMHO) and value for money is unreal.

This is the one that I have ordered.

    BASEIntel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 Processor (2.0GHz,800MHz,4MB L2 cache)
OPERATING SYSTEMGenuine Windows Vista™ Business - English
HARDWARE SUPPORT Base Warranty - 1 Year Business Hardware Support
LCD14.1" Wide Screen WXGA (1280x800) TFT Display with TrueLife™
INTEGRATED WEBCAMMatte Jet Black without Camera
    MEMORY2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024)
HARD DRIVE120GB (5400rpm) SATA Hard Drive
GRAPHICS CARD128 MB NVIDIA® GeForce®?8400M GS with 90 watt AC adapter
OPTICAL DRIVEFixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Drive including Software
    PRIMARY BATTERYPrimary 9-cell Lithium-Ion Battery (85 WHr)
I got this exact one for €978

Main improvements are that it has a dedicated graphics card and the much improved processor 2ghz v 1.86ghz doesnt look like much but the cache is 4mb v 1mb and the FSB is 800mhz v 533mhz and altho the ALDI one doesnt say what size the battery is, I doubt it is a 9cell.

Do you not have to be a business to buy from the Dell Business section?

Nope. You can buy it from the home sales but they cannot offer any discount on the system as it is not their place to do so. But sure its still great value anyways so you dont really feel hard done by. Its just arkward to be making up phoney business names goin through small business. I used my name as my business name.
