Domestic Water Filter

I am looking for a filter to provide clean drinking water. One that would fit under the sink would be ideal but all options are open. Can anybody recommend one?
I am told that the water supply comes through old asbestos pipes so I want to filter out any residue. :(
Also if it would filter out bugs like the ones affecting Galway and Clare.
    Thanks in advance.

I bought a kit with a cryptosporidium filter from these people.

You can buy kits in most good hardware/builders providers.

The connection to the water pipe is a usually a clamp which pierces the copper pipe so you don't need to alter the plumbing.

You will have to drill a hole through the worktop beside the sink.
