mysql encoding issues

    Hi

    I have a php mysql site working perfectly on one server

    i transfered over the site to another server - i changed nothing - and all the foreign characters are messed up - here is what i get
    Nouveau programme Beta lancé pour l'année 2006
    
    instead of
    Nouveau programme Beta lancé pour l'année 2006

    How did you go about transferring the mysql database ? are they both running the same versions ?

    You can check the collation/character set on the tables first off:
    show table status from db_name

    The "Collation" column will tell you what's being used.

    Try resetting the collation on the database;
    ALTER DATABASE db_name CHARACTER SET latin1 COLLATE latin1_general_ci;

    This sets it to ISO 8859-2 (Western European Standard).
