You iPod must have been set to automatically sync when it is connected to your iTunes. That means it matches whats on your iTunes to your iPod, nothing on your iTunes = nothin on your iPod. You will need to put all the songs back on your ITunes, then back on to your iPod, then under your iPod options make sure the iPod doesn't sync your music, I think you can select manage files manually or turn off the sync anyway. Then you can delete all the songs from your ITunes again.

Ya its an auto sync thing. Ipods dont like moving between computers you see...

On XP look in your Music folder they should still be there. Start > My Music. Then drag back into iTunes

(Or if your on a Mac they could still be in the Music folder in the finder, unless its set to delete both the iTunes entry and the actual file but you have to tell it to do this so its unlikely.)

Im no major expert but try anyway!

They have no problems moving between computers, you can use them over any amount of computers you want without trouble. It's a user issue, you see...

More commonly known as a PEBKAC issue

Do you mean you can have the same itunes librabry on a load of machines? and Update them all whenever you like to you ipod? Would nt that mean syncing from ipod to a computer which is'nt how it works?

Apple in general dont want you using you ipod on more than one computer afaik -to copy music to another machine you need to enable as a hard drive which is hardly conducive to listening to music...afaik it could only sync with one iTunes on one machine.

If you try syncing to another in normal mode it'll try to replace everything in the next library? I can be corrected here at any stage only had an ipod since Christmas

You can set it to manually manage your music , that way , you decide what goes on the ipod and what stays on the computer ,

Also you can set up multiple libraries with different names , and sync from any one of those libraries.

You can also set up these libraries on as many computers as you want , mine are on 4 different computers ,
The only restrictions concern the itunes store and any songs you bought off it ,your itunes account can only be authorised from 1 machine , your own music ripped from your own CD's has no restrictions.

Its more versatile than it looks ,

All this is on the ipod users page , here ,

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303635

Ive only had mine since christmas too , it wouldnt have been my first choice for a music player at the time , but the missus got me one and I have to say I quite like it now.
Having said that , you can see where a simple drag and drop in explorer type player would have an advantage , instead of having to wade through all this !

Hey all, I bought a lovely ipod 4G nano on ebay. I installed it and all was fine but the next time I went to connect I got the following message on my laptop desktop:

The folder “iTunes” cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the “music” folder.

It will not open i-tunes. I deleted itunes and reinstalled but I still cannot open itunes and cannot therefore get music on to my ipod. It's driving me mad I really need some expert advice.

    Thanks all so much.

And hence the reason for so many posts and threads around here saying iTunes can't do this, iPods can't do that when in fact they can. People just assume they can't because of chinese whispers and things like that.
