    Hi folks,
I'll be driving from Cairns to Sydney in November for approx 3 weeks and i'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions to stopovers. I was there over 5 years ago but done all my travelling by bus and saw nothing of the countryside. I did get to see all the major hot spots but this time i'm travelling with my partner who has never been. Any hot tips would be great.:)

Airlie Beach is really nice, its about 6-8 hours south of Cairns. You can also go out to the Whitsunday Islands from there too. Bondi is quite cool and busy, and Newcastle is good too. If you have seen Brisbane and Sydney then it leaves Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast as the other main spots too see.

    Enjoy :)

So many people going to OZ. Look at my blog at www.bugbitten.com/alanmurphy. The east coast is in there under Cairns to Brisbane, and Brisbane to Sydney. We drove from Cairns->Airlie Beach(Whitsundays tour)->Rainbow Beach(Frasar Island)->Brisbane->Surfers Paradise->Byron Bay->Nimbin->Sydney. Most of the details are in my blog so I don't really want to write them all a gain but check it out. Definitely stop in Byron Bay though, the nicest little town along the way. My main thing though is don’t have too much of a plan, apart from Fraser and Whitsundays(coz you need to book them), just enjoy it. PM if you have any more questions.

    Thanks Alan,

I was in Oz afew years back and sent as far as Byron Bay from Cairns. We done it by public bus so we stopped off at all the main spot. What Im looking for is anywhere off the beaten track or places of interest worth staying a night in that would be worth it. We are both into our wildlife so seen as much of that as possible would be great.

have u considered heading north of cairns for a few days - port douglas, daintree rainforest, cape tribulation. it's great up there and not too touristy.

hoping to do that also but because time is so short can you suggest the best bits to see. Would you recommend renting a car and staying up there for 1-2days or doing a guided tour. My partner isn't a great bus traveller so how long would it be by bus?

i did cape trib and that and wasnt amazed by it

defo do airlie beach-whitesundays cruise etc

Noosa is a nice little town not far north of brisbane as is moorochidore(or spelt something like that). australia zoo is v good and you will spend the best part of a full day walking around it.
