Been on two holidays so far this summer - one just a week long, the other for a weekend.
Both are major European destinations, and I never sent one postcard to family or friends. I just sent a txt to those that I thought would care.
A few years ago, I would have left for those destination with a list of all the people who I should send postcards too, and would have gone out of my way to make sure everyone got one.... heck, I'd probably send one in work just to piss them off!!
So, with emails and txts, have you stopped sending postcards?
Or does it really depend on the length of your holiday when to send them?
Or do you still send them to your nearest and dearest?

    Just wondering loike...

Yeah I still send postcards - not to my immediate family as they all are quite close to me so I would ring/text them.

I would always send postcards to friends who live in other countries and who live in Ireland aswell I suppose. The length of holiday wouldn't stop me - unless it was a weekend away of course. cos then I'd just look like a reject.

If I've just started seeing a bird, yeah.

They usually like useless crap like that + makes them believe you're thinking about them when you're really off with the nearest local slapper you can find.

I'll usually send a few. They cost very little and they're nice to receive.

Qft. I quite agree. It gives people a better feel of where you are. My sisters always send me cards when they're away; the least I can do is return the thought.

I rarely send them... but if I do intend to send some I stock up on Irish postcards and bring them with me.. You've got to do your bit to support the local economy.

Haha.. and then everyone gets an original moneyfudge doodle of the location you're in.. :)

    Priceless!

Have a tradition with a couple of mates that we send x-rated ones to whoever is left at home ... usually to work! Can be a bit of a balancing act choosing just what we can get away with ...

seein as I am permanently away from home I send postcards to Mammy whenever I travel to a new or interestin destination, like PNG orthe Birdsville races, basicly if I'm standin round in an airport looking for something to do then I will buy a few postcards and send em home,

Somehow a text message just dosent have the same effect, lacksthe actual physicality of a small piece of cardboard thats traversed the planet from my hand to hers

i also like the fact that everyone between hong kong and home gets to read them!! i normally only bloody write them out when im in the airport waiting to come home, so they usually arrive days/weeks after im home!!

I was in Alicante last year and I bought a postcard for my family. I hand delivered it to them so I don't really know if that counts

My brother is a keen photographer, and he'd take a photo while on hol, get it printed at the nearest photoshop, then glue it onto any old postcard and sent it on.
I gotta say, getting a proper personalised card from him is brilliant.

I really mean to sent them, as I know how much they can brighten someones day up. Heck, it seems all that comes through the post these days is bills as letters are just emails nowadays. Makes for a nice change and shows someone really cared. Gotta book a holiday to make an excuse so...

Sounds like I work for An Post.....
