Fantasy RPG's - Recommendations?

As a newb to RPG's I would appreciate peoples opinions on good ones to try. I have completed Neverwinter Nights and the 2 expansions and have just started NWN 2.

I absolutely loved NWN, and really enjoyed being a sorceress. I found the interplay between my AI henchmen and myself took a great leap forward with Hordes of the Underdark and was looking forward to more of the same with NWN 2.

So far though, I feel disappointed. It seems more 'cartoony', even though the graphics are in fact, much better, and you have more 'control' over your henchmen. It reminds me of when the long awaited Thief 3 came out, what an awful disappointment, fantastic graphics, yet it had lost the gameplay of the first 2 games. Its probably far too early to make that judgement, having just started the game, so all comments welcome.

Being an avid fantasy fan, (Erikson, Feist, Gemmell, Jordan, et al) I suppose I am hoping that there are at least some RPG's along these lines and I would be interested in hearing any recommendations that anyone might have. ;)

there was the wheel of time game but that was more a FPS ... think I only ever played the demo of it .. and while nice .. it was rather limited ...

Personally I'd recommend you get yourself a copy of oblivion ... its First Person as well .. but takes RPG's to a whole different level

Morrowind, Planescape torment, Vampire Maskerade, Baldurs Gate.

There are a lot of modules that can be dled for NWN which are really good
the dreamcatcher and deamonstone ones are wonderful.

Just bought Silverfall, NWN2 and Dungeon Siege(+addon) at the weekend.

Dungeon Siege is a bit dated in comparison, but I still rate it ahead of both of the others. I like character evolution by skill usage as opposed to predetermined skills that you put your points into.

Silverfall seem interesting. Haven't given it proper a chance to impress yet.
    The outside looks ok.

NWN2, just statted my character and got bored almost immediately. I'll come back to it though, and probably mess around module building.

As for previous RPG success' : Baldurs Gate with addons, and NWN with addons. Diablo 1&2 are great mindless hack'n'slash games. Minor rpg, but fun nonetheless. Who could forget Daggerfall -> Morrowind etc.

Do not, under any circumstances, ever play Shanara.

Many, many thanks to Thaedydal - have discovered the joy of NWN modules, playing the Shadowlords/dreamcatcher/demonstone set at the moment and loving it. Near the end of Shadowlords 3 at the moment, looking forward to plenty more hours of enjoyment - its a huge saga and very well done. Have downloaded some of the other highly rated modules too, so I'm delighted.

Thanks for everyones suggestions, will probably try Oblivion/Morrowind next, maybe Baldurs Gate, so caught up with the NWN modules that it may be a while! :D

Thanks Jordan79 for the suggestion, you're right, I do only play PC games, only recently bought a new high spec machine purely for gaming, haven't used consoles for years... :o
